Windy Creek Estate, formally Cobanov Wines was first established in 1937 by Anthony Cobanov. He had left Croatia in 1924 and spent 13 years cutting sleepers in the south-west to enable him to put a deposit on this Swan Valley property. In 1937 he bought the fertile Swan Valley property that is still the core of the family business and sent for his wife and sons. Tony’s father Steve arrived as a teenager in 1938.

They grew grapes for dried fruit production but made a small amount of wine for the Perth immigrant community. The Windy Creek label was first released in 1980 but the winery’s actual name changed, after a two and half year battle with Debortoli’s (Windy Peak), in 2000. The family has continued to produce wines for 70 years and we have been selling fruit to other wineries for approximately 25 years.

Tony Cobanov (the current winemaker) entered this industry as a 3rd generation winemaker and is very passionate about the Swan Valley and it’s work ethic and lifestyle. He is on the Swan Valley Planning Committee and has recently been Swan Valley Winemakers President for 2 years. He has 3 sons (Joshua, Callum and Rohan) so it is with distinct possibility that this will become a 4th generation business and he couldn’t think of anything better than that.

Today, the winery employs modern and traditional wine making techniques. Our white styles aiming to be crisp and friendly, showing loads of tropical fruits finishing with a nice mouth feel. Reds are earthy, savoury aroma with loads of fruit and well-balanced tannin. Medium to full bodied. Our fortifieds are old, rich and luscious. Good Oak.

  • Visited as part of a Swan Valley bus trip. 80 year old family winery with lovely vibe. Picnic area with tables out the back ideal for familiezls. Wines were cheap - typically $12 per bottle- but...

  • I was the bus driver for a fund-raiser Swan Valley wine tour a few weeks ago, and our first winery was the lovely Windy Creek Estate. All 22 people on the bus absolutely loved the wine and the gardens of Windy Creek Estate the most of all the wineries that we went to that day. Ruth the owner and the other 2 friendly staff were very nice to us, they were very efficient with a big group. I loved the wine here I bought a box of 12 bottles. Their home-made beetroot dip and tomato chutney is delicious. Today is my birthday, I'm meeting a small group of family here today to spend some time relaxing in the beautiful surroundings and will buy some delicious wine to have with my nibbles food platters that I am bringing with me. Perfect way to spend your birthday, in my opinion. Looking forward to a beautiful day at Windy Creek Estate.
  • This place never misses to hit the right note. My wife and I love Windy Creek, the wines are top notch and so well priced for the quality. The inside bar is amazing as it caters for large groups of wine tasting and the outdoor gardens are simply incredible. Can not wrap the staff enough, they are so professional and very down to earth. Thanks guys, we will be back soon!
  • First time to windy creek in Wednesday and I don't know why we had never visited before!! Such a beautiful place with equally beautiful treatment from Ruth. The wines were great and super well priced. Plenty of variety for all pallets. I want to come back for a picnic so we can enjoy the wine in the grounds and just sip away the afternoon. Thank you for a great experience. We will be back soon
  • Ruth and the team are excellent. Very hospitable. Also excellent wines at very reasonable prices. Don’t forget to try the liquors too!
  • We found this little gem a few years ago and will quite regularly call in to stock up if in the area...have also been known to do a sneaky little two hour round trip to fill the wine cabinet 🤭 Always great service! Highly recommend anyone looking for tasty wines at a great price, to check these guys out!
