Climb 2.5 km (1.4 miles) up The Pinnacle and you will be rewarded at the top with a feeling of accomplishment and a spectacular view overlooking the Grampians district. Choose between two routes based on your preferred level of difficulty. The Wonderland route is more strenuous with a continuous ascent via pathways and inclined steps; it involves some rock hopping and walking through a narrow gap in Silent Street. The Sundial route is much flatter with a less steep incline. Follow the yellow arrows to the top. • We walked from wonderland carpark. Wanted to go through the Grand canyon but it's unfortunately closed. Definitely still worth walking as far as you can before hitting the fenced off area. We...  more »
  • This is quite a hard walk. Take a stick. The yellow markers are not that easy to locate and follow. Could have used quite a few more of them.  more »

  • Amazing views! Of course that’s the reason to go, but the signage of the tracks is limited so here are some tips. One entrance is next to the Halls Gap swimming pool, there is all day parking in town on the street and car park. Or next to the tennis courts. Walk on the town side of the little creek at the back of the Halls Gap caravan park and you will see the signs. Don’t be miss-led the ‘quick’ 4.5km walk to the top is very steep and in the heat you will need to be relatively fit and take lots of water and snacks. It’s at least 2 hours up the hill. Wear stable and grippy shoes too as it’s easy to kick rocks and you need the grip. An alternative route is via the Wonderland car park. This is 2.5km and an easier walk but still significant effort. If you walk this way all the way to town you can also see the Venus pools, but it’s an extra hour or more that way. Best of luck!
  • Not too tough a walk to the top, with clearly marked paths. A bit steep but nothing too hard. Quite busy up the top, with a long queue for the pinnacle. Lots of other good places to take photos up the top, without needing to wait
  • The hike from Sundial Parking is great to view sunset colours. The view of Lake Bellfield from the top is absolutely stunning! The descriptions say it is good for hiking with kids, however it needs some qualification. I would say kids above 8. We went with a 4 year old and he was great for the majority of it, but found it very challenging on the way back. Hopefully this helps others families who are in a similar situation.
  • It was only 2.2kms to reach the top but the hike was quite exhausting. Definitely not a walk in the park. The views were lovely on the way up and getting to the pinnacle was truly rewarding.
  • A 2 hour return walk to the pinnacle, definitely well worth the effort to see the amazing views it has to offer. Definitely bring some good hiking shoes as there is quite a lot of rugged terrain and slippery rocks. Recommend to do during sunrise/sunset as the afternoon sun in the summer can be quite unbearable.
