Sanctuary Cove, Gold Coast

(4.1/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Sanctuary Cove is a gated community, in the suburb of Hope Island in the Gold Coast area of Queensland, Australia. It was the first of such developments in Australia and is notable for its impact in planning legislation in Queensland which had to be altered to allow it to proceed, due to the privatisation of such large areas of urban land. It covers an area of 474 hectares south of the Coomera River close to its mouth. To the east of Sanctuary Cove is Coomera Island.Sanctuary Cove provides a completely self-contained residential environment with its own shopping centre and entertainment facilities, with the addition of many of the facilities of a holiday resort, such as boating marinas and golf courses. Sanctuary Cove continues to grow as remaining land is developed. It is home to the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show which has been held annually since 1988.HistoryThe property was developed by Mike Gore and launched in 1986. In 1992, Gore fled the country, leaving the development in receivership for many years to come. The property was bought by Mulpha Australia Limited in 2002. On 9 April 2010 a new golf clubhouse was launched.ResortInterContinental owns the luxury hotel at Sanctuary Cove. The resort was previously called the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove as was managed by Hyatt. In late 2012, management was taken over by Mulpha. It contains 247 rooms.

  • Sanctuary Cove Intercontinental Hotel, 5 nights is short too. Despite this close from beaches on the Gold Coast bus is quiet good. Fraction is a busy Gold Coast, still here and no longer beams differ. Fashionable in the marine village many affordable restaurants, Super friends in the room, can also eat. It is a good thing. The only public transportation is not good enough.

  • Up early from Brisbane for 18 holes. Course was very tough and in great condition. Will definitely be back again. Golf was followed up by breakfast served by welcoming friendly staff and a great menu!...  more »

  • A self contained village with abundant eating and holiday supply needs (chemist, news agency etc). High end life style shops and fashion boutiques (mainly catering to older, golf club style markets) also fill out the rest of the shops. A good hub for your Hope Island holiday.
  • Had food at George's, which was quite nice. It was pretty busy around 1230pm onwards. Foods decently valued, now it's 1/2 price as a special
  • Lovely atmosphere in the village - love dining at Jonez on Food Restaurant and shopping at Calypso Resort and Swimwear who are the friendliest people with a great selection of clothing. The boating atmosphere is calming and refreshing. Nice place to visit for a few hours.
  • Played 18 holes at the pines - great course. Very serious and exclusive club however and felt a little unwelcome as a non member but the staff were great otherwise.
  • Facilities were excellent, views are amazing. Staff were very accommodating and helpful. There is a very eexclusive feel to driving out to sanctuary cove that always feels like you are on vacation.
