History Museum
Discover the rich heritage of native Western Australians at Museum of Geraldton, which overlooks the Indian Ocean. Enjoy guided tours of the indigenous Yamaji people’s history and culture, and explore Western Australia’s natural landscapes and varied marine environments. The museum features educational exhibits about European explorations and settlements, which helped develop the region’s agriculture, fishing, mining, and science industries. Be sure to stop by the museum’s popular shipwreck gallery, at the center of which is a reconstructed portico from the wreck of the infamous Batavia, a Dutch vessel sunk by the nearby Abrolhos Islands in the 17th century. A fun history lesson for visitors of all ages, the shipwreck gallery also features reconstructions of three other major wrecks located in the region. • A really nice, relaxed atmosphere in this museum. Although it is small it uses its space well, with areas dedicated to both long and short term exhibitions. The indigenous and colonial histories of the Batavia Coast and other local regions are on show. It doesn't take long to get through the exhibits, but it's worth a visit. Entry is free but a donation on entry is encouraged.
  • An amazing experience. Lots of kid-friendly actives. Interesting exhibitions, and staff are highly knowledgeable.
  • Lovely exhibits showing the local history and connection to the Dutch East India Company and the wreck of the Battavia.
  • Very good museum, well worth a look.
  • This is very interesting place to spend a couple of hours. The mid west coast has an amazing history.
