History Museum Specialty Museum
Now a museum, the Cheynes Beach Whaling Station was Australia’s last operating whaling station when it closed in 1978. Albany's Historic Whaling Station displays the largest whale skeleton in Western Australia, a 22 m (72 ft) long pygmy blue whale skeleton. The former cutting-up decks and processing factory display whole vessels, harpoons, and ship models. Inside, view movies about marine life and whaling operations. Outside, explore the rusting Cheynes IV whale chaser and equipment. • I had a wonderful experience visiting this place to see the history of Whaling in Albany western Australia. Lots of visitors and locals visit this place for whale watching of the coast... The museum is an outdoor building tour guide to look at pictures of the past, equipment and whale skeletons of different types and sizes.
  • Excellent museum. Need to do tour on the hour and take more time to go over the ship and look around. Nice cafe.
  • The visit was very informative and instructive. Guide had had a hard day but battled on.
  • Did a lovely tour with a great guide, then you're on your own to explore. Bit too pricey though. Had lunch at the cafe there, great food and reasonable prices, keep it up girls!
  • Leisurely dining with amazing water views. Friendly service, great food prepared on the premises.
