Built by convict labor and opened as a psychiatric hospital called "Asylum for the Criminally Insane," Fremantle Arts Centre is known nowadays as a thriving creative space. The center attracts over 3,000 people to its outdoor concerts and almost as many to its exhibits and other art events throughout the year. Visit the galleries to see the latest trends in contemporary art. Inside you'll also find the offices for the Fremantles Art Center Press, a publishing house that puts award-winning authors to press. • The Fremantle Arts Centre escapes the view and you have to go look for. worth it though. It is a place where you can find concerts and interesting exhibits that elevate the cultural life in Fremantle (sometimes a bit squashed on eating and drinking).

  • One of my favourite places in freo. Historical building. Always nice expo in there. Awesome in summer with the Sunday concerts and pizza.
  • This place is just beautiful! The front courtyard and cafe is a wonderful place to sit and be inspired. The art gallery itself displays constantly changing exhibitions. Most are excellent, but you might be unlucky. The centre also plays host to a wide variety of free and not-so-free music concerts.
  • The cafe is in a beautiful garden setting within high limestone walls, The food we had was very well made and presented, best we've had for a long time. Excellent service. You will not be disappointed.
  • Great spot for breakfast and one of my favourite music venues for the open air gigs in summer. Local and international artists often play here and there are a variety of special events particularly around the Christmas season.
  • It's a great venue to watch a show - but the logistics are poorly handled. It takes forever to get in the one entrance, the parking is not well considered, the toilet facilities are very average and the grassed areas were never made to take the traffic and are slowly turning to sand. I'm sure if they ever resolve these issues it'll be one of Perth's best venues.
