Fitzroy Island National Park, Fitzroy Island
(4.5/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Take a glass-bottom boat tour of Fitzroy Island National Park to see a fringing reef well known for its huge variety of coral and fish. Much of the protected island is off-limits to visitors, but you can visit the sheltered western side, where a jetty and several snorkeling areas can be found. A walking trail on the northern end of the island can take you to its tallest peak, offering 360-degree views over the surrounding reefs and Cape Grafton. On clear sunny days, it's possible to make out the Frankland Islands to the south. Along the trail, which leads through a verdant rain forest teeming with wildlife, you can access the pristine Nudey Beach, which is no longer a nudist beach, despite its name. See Fitzroy Island National Park and all Fitzroy Island has to offer by arranging your trip with our Fitzroy Island travel itinerary maker.

  • The island is lovely although the coral is not as wonderful as it was many years ago. There is still a bit to see and it is possible to swim with turtles.
  • Located a short distance away from Cairns, Fitzroy Island can be easily reached by boat or catamaran. Amazing for snorkeling, diving, and other water activities. Some of the beaches are full of coral ...  more »
  • Had spare day at Cairns before heading back to Sydney and what a lovely surprise, great place to spend the day. Little tracks thought the forest will take you to tiny little paradise beaches. Overall ...  more »

  • Beautiful! But don't forget to wear shoes on the beach, the coral is brutal on your feet. Did the hill climb(the views are totally worth it but wow was that a hike, I was struggling). Also went kayaking in the bay(was told not to venture too far around the island unless we wanted to visit the nude beach around the corner) and since I was visiting during the winter months which is also mating season for sperm whales, we had to cut it short after some appearance that were a little too close for comfort. Amazing thing to witness. Also don't pocket anything you find on the beach(I found a shark tooth) because there is 0 tolerance at customs.
  • Great place to spend a day, we had a ball. Must take a walk up to the lighthouse about 1hr round trip as a nice pace!
  • It is not possible to swim near Cairns because of the crocs, so go to Fitzroy Island! Very nice place, easy to scuba dive and see some fish and coral (please don't touch,, just look) Book your ticket in advance for the ferry as it might be full.
  • Amazing place to stay or visit for the day. Weather was amazing and staff are friendly.
  • nice walks in forest - some colourful coral snorkelling off the beach - however there are some sea lice and jelly fish
