Fitzroy Island National Park, Fitzroy Island
Categories: National Parks, Nature & Parks
Take a glass-bottom boat tour of Fitzroy Island National Park to see a fringing reef well known for its huge variety of coral and fish. Much of the protected island is off-limits to visitors, but you can visit the sheltered western side, where a jetty and several snorkeling areas can be found. A walking trail on the northern end of the island can take you to its tallest peak, offering 360-degree views over the surrounding reefs and Cape Grafton. On clear sunny days, it's possible to make out the Frankland Islands to the south. Along the trail, which leads through a verdant rain forest teeming with wildlife, you can access the pristine Nudey Beach, which is no longer a nudist beach, despite its name. See Fitzroy Island National Park and all Fitzroy Island has to offer by arranging your trip with our Fitzroy Island travel itinerary maker.

We did an 11am half day tour organised through the resort. This meant catching the ferry from Cairns and enjoying a self-guided day of leisure on Fitzroy Island. We hired a locker and went snorkelling... read more »

Beautiful! But don't forget to wear shoes on the beach, the coral is brutal on your feet. Did the hill climb(the views are totally worth it but wow was that a hike, I was struggling). Also went kayaking in the bay(was told not to venture too far around the island unless we wanted to visit the nude beach around the corner) and since I was visiting during the winter months which is also mating season for sperm whales, we had to cut it short after some appearance that were a little too close for comfort. Amazing thing to witness. Also don't pocket anything you find on the beach(I found a shark tooth) because there is 0 tolerance at customs.
Very beautiful place but you can't go to the beach without flipflops, otherwise you will hurt your feet. DON'T swim without water suits, or you can get a sting and you don't want that! It can cause a reaction in your body and it will ruin the rest of your day. Just put the water suits on and everything will be great.
Wonderful day out with a group of adults, plenty of snorkeling and swimming and beach space. Definitely do the hill climb, it's worth it
Lovely island for a day drip but water wasn't as clear as we expected.
