Fitzroy Island National Park, Fitzroy Island

4.4
#27 of 231 in Nature in Queensland
Take a glass-bottom boat tour of Fitzroy Island National Park to see a fringing reef well known for its huge variety of coral and fish. Much of the protected island is off-limits to visitors, but you can visit the sheltered western side, where a jetty and several snorkeling areas can be found. A walking trail on the northern end of the island can take you to its tallest peak, offering 360-degree views over the surrounding reefs and Cape Grafton. On clear sunny days, it's possible to make out the Frankland Islands to the south. Along the trail, which leads through a verdant rain forest teeming with wildlife, you can access the pristine Nudey Beach, which is no longer a nudist beach, despite its name. • It is a beautiful place to spend the day, the ferry depart 8:00-11:00-13:30 and the last one back at 17:00, the trip lasts 45 minutes. Multiple water activities can be, there are two places where you can rent boards, kayaking, snorkeling, and more important, suit to avoid jellyfish sting, to 16hs. It has a hotel and a few other very nice and good food. Take into account that the beaches have sand, if not corals broken with which is ideal to carry some kind of sandal with which you can enter the water and not be you out like a flip flop. In my experience played a dream day, plenty of sunshine and heat, no wind. A beautiful, away from the tumult of people of the usual excursions. To make on their own.

  • Very beautiful, plenty exciting activities, but with the unclear measurement of distance, we got exhausted at the end of the day from the long walk between the light house to the summit lookout then d...  more »
  • I went snorkeling in a family of four. From the pier towards the sea left by that snorkeling and went straight there. There are a lot of fish, and making good use of coral in the Rocky area. Together and my son's elementary school students made snorkeling, best memories. One disappointing thing was lined with private motor boats on the beach. And the music up to swim out of the way and and fussy. It was otherwise a great island.

  • Island is still beautiful with wall trails and pristine beaches, Shame its not as I remembered, now the resort is there,it is very pricey and only limited time frames that the kitchen is open for food or u can get a dry sandwich or rock hard sausage roll from the shop/deli. Recommend taking own picnic bbq and LOTS of drinking water.
  • Excellent location brilliantly clear water great for snorkelling / diving or swimming. Fitzroy Island also has an exclusive guest resort for overnight visitor's and separate bar and restaurant for day trippers. Fabulous food and refreshments at great prices. Beach hire equipment is also available at this remarkable location. Family friendly all round with very hospitable and friendly staff. Highly recommended
  • Camped there for 4 nights. Shared with the campground with a max of 2 other tents per night. Spacious campground. Showers, toilets and bbq shared with day trippers. Crystal clear, calm sea just 100m from campground. You can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves, plus some rather loud insects. The Summit track starts right at the corner of the camping ground. An hour climb to the top... an unforgiving amount of steps! But amazing views of the other side of the island. You can turn it into a loop by continuing roundand returning via the Lighthouse track which will be steep downhill.
  • Just fantastic. Quiet, and relatively unspoilt. Superb resort.
  • I don’t want to say much about this place as it is one of my most favourite places to go and I don’t want it spoilt with loads more people coming but I understand tourism is what keeps it strong. Hiking to the lighthouse, snorkeling diving standup paddleboard, drinking at Foxys bar or just lazing on the coral beach 🏖 sounds tough right!
