Fitzroy Island National Park, Fitzroy Island

4.4
#27 of 231 in Nature in Queensland
Take a glass-bottom boat tour of Fitzroy Island National Park to see a fringing reef well known for its huge variety of coral and fish. Much of the protected island is off-limits to visitors, but you can visit the sheltered western side, where a jetty and several snorkeling areas can be found. A walking trail on the northern end of the island can take you to its tallest peak, offering 360-degree views over the surrounding reefs and Cape Grafton. On clear sunny days, it's possible to make out the Frankland Islands to the south. Along the trail, which leads through a verdant rain forest teeming with wildlife, you can access the pristine Nudey Beach, which is no longer a nudist beach, despite its name. A beautiful island, but treat yourself and stay a night or 4 and really take in all it has to offer!  more »

The island where you can see and the jungle and reef and beautiful beaches. Nudey Beach-this is a must see. 15 minutes the path from the hotel. Snooreling-equipment can be rented at the hotel. The reef starts at 20 m from the shore. Corals, fish, fish and even a turtle. Better to dive are the beaches on the right side of the hotel. Visit the lighthouse and on top of the mountain. And to walk the path of nature.

On the island there is only one hotel to stay, and the bad. Surely there's better choices of islands in the area, although hotels on the Islands are generally very expensive or very horrendous.

So beautiful. We went snorkeling and it was the most amazing experience. There was a little bit of bleaching in the coral but the fish we saw were beautiful. The view from the island was picture perfect.

Amazing place to go with the family. Lots of fun things to do like snorkeling, fishing, paddleboarding and swimming. Heaps to exotic fish to see. A must go place!

Very good if the weather's on your side. The hike to the summit is a must-do, as well as a visit to Nudey Beach (despite the name, you should bring clothes) if you're not tired after that, or if you're staying multiple days, go snorkeling. The coral is nice enough if you haven't seen the Great Barrier Reef yet. Be sure to inquire at the dive shop where the best places are. Foxy's Bar offers great burgers for cheap. Sky blue water, coral beaches, pals trees, relaxed atmosphere. Like I said, all you need is the weather.

I would totally recommend Fitzroy island to anyone who wants a day trip while staying at Cairns. This place is gorgeous and there are a lot things to do. Snorkeling is wonderful near some of rocks, water was calm enough for me to learn paddling.
