Chenrezig Institute is a centre for Buddhist study, meditation, retreat, and practice nestled in the foothills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland in Queensland, Australia. Established in 1974 Chenrezig Institute was one of the first Tibetan Buddhist centre in the Western World and remains one of the largest.

Today, the Institute is home to a Tibetan Geshe (Lama), a large community of ordained Sangha (monks and nuns), students, residents, volunteers, retreatants, and guests.

Apart from the formal study programmes, Chenrezig Institute is a peaceful, calm and relaxing place to spend a few hours, days or weeks. Stroll along the bush paths, wander in the formal garden, sip espresso in the café, have a vegetarian meal, drop in for a meditation class or teaching, or just sit and listen to life.

  • Went for breakfast to experience the Buddhist ambience and found it severely lacking with the kitchen staff. $16 for two is reasonable and we were expecting basics but had to pay extra for chai Tea but no options for anything other than a continental breakfast. We both felt isolated and while I know focus is on self awareness, I truly believe the café certainly did not live up to it`s name. really disappointed, but I`ve heard the lunch experience is much better.
  • This is one of the most spiritually infused places in Australia. One feels more at peace just being there. It is lush and beautiful for the eyes and nourishing for the heart/mind. A rare and precious sanctum of serenity and clarity in a crazy, mixed-up world. A true external refuge for the inner journey to become of primary importance. My favourite place.
  • the institute will be reviewed in good time by those who have the intelligence to review good luck to zopa and geshe jaymyang and his brother the venerable jampa wangdu , its not a race the moment is the destination breathe out then breath in again and know you
