Created by the movement of the earth and the effects of natural erosion on flat sedimentary rock, Tessellated Pavement is a rare geological phenomenon found only in a few places in the world. This particular one sits at the northern end of Pirates Bay beach. Photographers have spent endless hours trying to capture the mystery of this geological oddity, but to experience its full effect you'll need to negotiate several sets of stable steps and clamber over few rocks. Nearby attractions include a natural arch and blowhole, as well as a monument to the watch dogs of Port Arthur penal colony. Take the guesswork out of planning a Eaglehawk Neck vacation by using our trip itinerary maker.

My wife and I and two friends visited here in May. This is an amazing site. Perfectly carved rocks.........it was hard to believe it was natural. Well worth a visit.

Wow the geological structures and formations is excellent. It really is worth the short term minute walk down to the the rock pools. Make this a stop on the way to Port Arthur and you won't be disappointed. Make the trip at sunrise and you have Instagram worthy shots you can write home about!

An interesting geographic feature, we first visited 30 years ago. It was interesting to see the differences in the pavement caused by ongoing erosion over this time. Quite a few stairs to get down to this one (and also a lot of stairs going up) but definitely worth exploring if you are physically able.

Really cool place. Great views from the top but lots of stairs to get to the bottom so not for everyone. Still worth a look from the easy path.
-
Very short walk with well built steps to access one of the most stunning shoreline. Good sight for snorkel. A nice small beach nearby.

We were here with 0.5m tide and it was great. Lovely place to visit, very close to main road and only 5 minutes to walk the track. Took me years to make this little sidetrip, don't skip it!! See my pics :)
