Passing Clouds Winery, Daylesford

4.3
#14 of 169 in Wineries in Victoria
Passing Clouds was originally established in the Bendigo region where Graeme Leith & Sue McKinnon planted their first Shiraz and Cabernet vines at the Kingower estate in 1974. Since then Passing Clouds has built a stellar reputation for its distinctive reds. The grapes are traditionally vinified to make elegant wines which are expressive of their site.

Now places at Musk,in the Macedon Ranges, Passing Clouds is renowned for producing world-class cool climate wines. It is the coldest region for growing grapes on the Australian mainland. Passing Clouds focuses on the varieties that excel in a cool climate - Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. At 771m ASL, the Fools on the Hill estate vineyard provides an extraordinarily slow ripening climate for producing intense, delicate and yet complex wine.

  • Came here on a wine tasting tour. Lovely wines. The cellar door attendant was knowledgeable but seemed bored like he would rather be somewhere else. I liked that not only could we see the barrel room from the tasting room but we got to walk through it to access the bathroom- definitely a highlight! We enjoyed an absolutely delicious lunch however our experience was a bit tainted by a very grumpy waitress. The other waitress (possibly the owner?) was super friendly and helpful. We had a great time playing bowles on the neglected course.
  • Great food wine and service. A must do for the area
  • Friendly and knowledgable staff, very accommodating to any dietary requirements, food and wine was delicious! Highly recommend booking!
  • Absolutely beautiful lunch, couldn't fault a thing, actually the best food I've had since moving to the area 2 years ago. Everything was cooked with so much love and flavour, staff were great & the wine lovely. Geat day out, a must visit
  • We made our second visit to Passing Clouds this past weekend. Lovely wine and amazing staff. Hugh in particular is simply a super awesome dude, he makes you feel like part of the Passing Clouds family from the moment you walk in the cellar door. My partner doesn't drink wine and even HE loves going there just because the atmosphere is so wonderful (and Hugh made it perfect by serving him an ice cold beer). Can't recommend this place enough, and please don't leave without a bottle or two of their Pinot Noir. Can't wait to visit again.
