Wave Lagoon, Darwin

#4 of 81 in Theme Parks in Australia
Water Park Water / Amusement Park
When stinging jellyfish populate the waters around Darwin, head for Wave Lagoon. Free of stingers and crocodiles, this wave-pool and swimming lagoon provide a safe place to cool off in the heat. The lagoon reaches a maximum depth of 2 m (6.5 ft), and the waves in the wave-pool climb to 1.7 m (5.6 ft). Catch the waves that suit you; wave intensity varies throughout each cycle. The wet season brings frequent storms from October to May, and lifeguards move visitors to sheltered areas when thunder and lighting are imminent. Leave extra time to wait for the usually brief outbursts to pass if you visit during this period. Make Wave Lagoon part of your personalized Darwin itinerary using our Darwin vacation generator.

  • Pleasant refreshment in Darwin's beautiful waterfront. The wave itself offers little deck space, to do this, the surrounding meadows with enough shady places can be used however since you can enter the wave pool thanks to a "entry bracelet" in the course of the day and leave. Also they are positive within a few minutes of reach restaurants and Cafés (ice cream, soft drinks etc. for children).

Where to stay in Darwin

A small but distinctly cosmopolitan city, Darwin offers a surprisingly diverse range of lodgings, with most hotels located in or near the central business district. Despite this, finding a comfortable room during the peak May-to-September season can be extremely difficult, especially if you don't book ahead of your visit. If planning months in advance isn't an option, consider staying at a backpacker hostel or guesthouse outside the city center. Many of these smaller establishments offer access to free Wi-Fi and outdoor swimming pools.
