Where to stay in Darwin

A small but distinctly cosmopolitan city, Darwin offers a surprisingly diverse range of lodgings, with most hotels located in or near the central business district. Despite this, finding a comfortable room during the peak May-to-September season can be extremely difficult, especially if you don't book ahead of your visit. If planning months in advance isn't an option, consider staying at a backpacker hostel or guesthouse outside the city center. Many of these smaller establishments offer access to free Wi-Fi and outdoor swimming pools.

  • Average. Smallish in size. More arts and crafts/clothing. Good selection of food. Wouldnt bother going back as no 'wow' factor.
  • It is a neat little market. Good variety of things and quality. Can pick up something nice and cheap and also something worth a little more money.
  • Nightcliff markets is always a great place for a feed. Great fresh smoothies, good variety of food and a nice selection of other market stalls.
  • Hippy vibes, live music and a variety of food options. Grab a crêpe and a fresh mango juice, sit under the leafy trees and enjoy the busy hum of the tropical markets.
  • The location is great, people are nice and friendly
