  • We spent two nights at Star City during our week in Darwin. The pools were fantastic, it was lovely to take in the ocean view from the infinity pool. The lagoon pool is vast and at the time we were only among a few people using the pool. Enjoyed a couple of drinks at the swim up bar including a fabulous espresso martini. The view from the room took in both the ocean and the lagoon pool, so we woke each morning to a view of the water and spectacular light. Staff were wonderfully helpful and friendly in the resort and in the casino itself. The sunset from pool or the casino is a sight to behold. And a complimentary bottle of sparkling on arrival was a lovely touch! Would stay again.
  • Overall was very good and I would return. The only thing I would mention would be the breakfast. I think some of the food may have been sitting under the lamps a little long. We got some very hard pancakes along with the hash browns. The coffee machine also took a long time to make a coffee. There was only one person working the pool bar as well, she was doing cocktails, food beers etc. The service while good, was very slow. A little more shade over the pool bar would be great too.
  • My wife and I dined at the wonderful Cove restaurant. We had cocktails, mains and desert, all were of excellent quality. The service was prompt and friendly and the surroundings pleasant. Though the prices were high, it was well worth it. We will definitely be returning.
  • The reception staff were coldly efficient; minimum interaction even though there was no other check ins when we arrived. On the Saturday morning, I received a phone call asking why we had not checked out. As we had booked and paid for a 3 night stay (and the phone call was after 2 nights) I stated that we had a booked 3 night stay. The staff member stated that she would call the booking agent and get back to me. After 30 minutes she called back and stated that they (the hotel) had made a mistake. There was no apology for the "mistake". However, the concierge Chris, was excellent. He assisted us with the frozen fish that we needed stored and with our bags. In addition he was friendly and very helpful with local knowledge and willing to go out of his way to assist our enquiries. He is the only reason that I would rate the hotel at all. We ate dinner, on the three nights, at the different restaurants. The overall service was poor and the food "ordinary". We do not drink alcohol and therefore are "neglected" in overall service.
  • Nice location. Building a bit tired. Breakfast expensive. Sand bar has a beautiful outlook. Chinese restaurant good. Fine dining restaurant good. Taxi service quick. Casino drab and uninviting.

Where to stay in Darwin

A small but distinctly cosmopolitan city, Darwin offers a surprisingly diverse range of lodgings, with most hotels located in or near the central business district. Despite this, finding a comfortable room during the peak May-to-September season can be extremely difficult, especially if you don't book ahead of your visit. If planning months in advance isn't an option, consider staying at a backpacker hostel or guesthouse outside the city center. Many of these smaller establishments offer access to free Wi-Fi and outdoor swimming pools.
