Lake Alexander, Darwin

4.0
#12 of 16 in Parks in Darwin
Water Body Nature / Park
The man-made Lake Alexander sits languorously amid trees and lush grassland, giving it a laid-back, picturesque air. Officially opened in 1991, the lake was named after Alec Fong Lim, a former Mayor of Darwin. The water is filtered, meaning that dangerous marine predators are usually not to be found in the lake. Where to stay in Darwin

A small but distinctly cosmopolitan city, Darwin offers a surprisingly diverse range of lodgings, with most hotels located in or near the central business district. Despite this, finding a comfortable room during the peak May-to-September season can be extremely difficult, especially if you don't book ahead of your visit. If planning months in advance isn't an option, consider staying at a backpacker hostel or guesthouse outside the city center. Many of these smaller establishments offer access to free Wi-Fi and outdoor swimming pools.
