Lake Alexander, Darwin
(4.1/5 based on 70+ reviews on the web)
The man-made Lake Alexander sits languorously amid trees and lush grassland, giving it a laid-back, picturesque air. Officially opened in 1991, the lake was named after Alec Fong Lim, a former Mayor of Darwin. The water is filtered, meaning that dangerous marine predators are usually not to be found in the lake. Using our online itinerary creator, Darwin attractions like Lake Alexander can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Not sure about being "safe" from crocs. As it is just across the road from the sea. Crocs can walk. There were some locals there enjoying the water.
  • Provides an alternative to swimming in the sea with sandy beaches and parkland to lie around in. Fresh water showers available. Part of the East Point Reserve, with wallabys etc.

  • You can swim there but i wouldnt do this. Its a hot and salty soup. Go to the Wave Lagoon at the Convention Centre Darwin. Here you have 2 pools, 1 free and 1 with a few dollars entry but with wave simulator/wave pool
  • Beautifully relaxed, great for a picnic, nice ocean breezes
