Visit the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre to learn about Australia's colorful history in flight. See 19 aircraft on display, including a B-25 Mitchell Bomber, Mirage and Sabre jet fighters, and an Australian Navy Wessex helicopter that helped clean up Darwin after Cyclone Tracy hit on Christmas in 1974. The 38 displays include videos of the bombing of Darwin in World War II and a depiction of pioneers Ross and Keith Smith in flight in 1919. Bring drinking water with you if the weather's warm because it can become quite hot inside the hangar. • A fantastic place to visit, full of wonderful planes, especially love the B52 bomber. Learnt a lot, a definite place to visit if you love planes  more »
  • Enjoyed the memorabilia and looking back at the different types of planes. May have been more interesting if a guided talk was available to give more information. Seen in 1 hour.  more »
  • Great B-52 on display and do many associated aircraft memorabilia well described and exciting. Loved the gift shop.  more »

  • Just teaming with amazing aviation lore and relics. Fascinating displays that are well kept. Place is a bit dated but hey so is the content! Highly recommend seeing this priceless collection of Australian Aviation history.
  • We spent there about 2 hours. Interesting place. Many pictures made and videos.
  • Fantastic, have been to Williamtown and Point Cook Aviation Heritage Centres the Darwin one is great, big B52 show stopper
  • Impressive . Would have been nice to be able to enter a plane but we're only able to view the outside
  • Filled with beautiful aircraft and the massive B-52 bomber. Overall the aircraft are kept in fairly good condition considering that this is in Darwin, enduring the hot and humid conditions. Despite this weather, the only airconditioned area is the the lobby which contains small collectables, old magazines and souvenirs. Though this makes sense as airconditioning an entire hangers is far too expensive to maintain for such a museum.

Where to stay in Darwin

A small but distinctly cosmopolitan city, Darwin offers a surprisingly diverse range of lodgings, with most hotels located in or near the central business district. Despite this, finding a comfortable room during the peak May-to-September season can be extremely difficult, especially if you don't book ahead of your visit. If planning months in advance isn't an option, consider staying at a backpacker hostel or guesthouse outside the city center. Many of these smaller establishments offer access to free Wi-Fi and outdoor swimming pools.
