It includes Pelican Point which is an important breeding sanctuary for migratory birds.Matilda Bay is believed to have been named after the wife of John Septimus Roe, Matilda .HistoryCaptain Currie was the first colonial owner of the 32acre estate surrounding the bay, and during this time it was known as Eliza Bay. Pelican Point was then known as Point Currie. The estate was sold in 1832 to the Assistant Surveyor and Colonial Treasurer, Henry Sutherland for ₤100. Sutherland changed the property name to Crawley Park in memory of his mother's maiden name and the bay hence became Crawley Bay. The estate was acquired by the Government in 1910 and vested in the University of Western Australia in 1922.

  • We met friends here on a Sunday morning for breakfast. We arrived to find plenty of parking it was very quiet when we got there but soon became very busy. It never felt overcrowded though. There are plenty of trees for shade lovely grass. Picnic and BBQ areas plus a wonderful cafe (gluten free options) and “posh” restaurant. With plenty of water and pontoons all in all a fist class park
  • Great place, a few cafes and the river was nice to swim in the bay area. Lots of water activities going on and picnicking on the shores.
  • Really wasn't impressed with our time in Matilda Bay. We have wanted to go again for ages since our last time was pretty good. Bringing the family along to celebrate our birthday, we were embarrassed to bring them there. The scotch fillet was unbelievable in the worst possible way, definitely not worth the money for the little piece that you get; mainly bone... Everything else was pretty average and the only people half happy were the vegans on the table. We were also unhappy since we requested to be next to the window; and we weren't in the end, even though the restaurant was half full and empty when we came and left. Definitely won't recommend this to friends and family... We really did want to enjoy this night.
  • Beautiful setting. Bbq in the park and kicking The footy right next to the river
  • Perfect spot for a wedding ceremony. You can book an appropriate spot that works for you through the regional parks authority.
