Mount Coolum, Coolum Beach
Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Enjoy 360-degree views of the Sunshine Coast from Mount Coolum, a roughly circular volcanic dome rising abruptly from the coastal plain. The dome, largely formed by volcanic rocks over 25 million years old, rises to a 208 meter (682 ft) peak, with steep cliffs on the southern side and a disused quarry occupying the eastern foothills. Climb to the top to observe the area’s impressive botanical diversity, which includes over 700 different species of plants. Keep in mind that this track to the top should not be started after rain or late in the day, as the trail becomes very steep, rough, and dangerously slippery when wet. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Coolum Beach holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Mount Coolum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
