  • We walked through the free museum and it is quite interesting with the science-based and historical information presented. A very well constructed and presented display.
  • Great place to understand the background to how the miners arrived as well as info into the aboriginal influences in the area
  • First we watched a film and then toured the dormant mine. The information was well presented and comprehensive with local stories included. The visit to the underground home was good and the museum wa...  more »

  • The information and artefacts were nicely displayed, however the main part of the museum was the jewellery shop! Friendly staff who were happy to show you jewellery without any pressure sales tactics.
  • The history of this town is captured so well. I really enjoyed going browsing through all the opal mine and jewelry store
  • Nice free place to visit. Also did the paid tour and really enjoyed it.
  • We had the miss fortune of going to the Umoona restaurant last night. I don't know how it is connected to the mine but it was our first disappointing experience in Coober Pedy since we have been semi regular visitors over the past 20 years. After being seated at a table we had no offer of either a drink or menu's. Another couple came in after us, seated by same girl, asked whether they woild like a drink to start and given both water snd menus. We then waited and waited and finally had to get her attention and request both menus and water. These eventually came but no offer of drinks. We then waited again until I finally again caught her attention and requested a wine menu. At this stage I was well and truely ready to walk out. When we finally got to order our wine our first choice was unavailable. We were both tired and hungry so we stuck it out and eventually got our meals which were surprisingly good considering the start to our dining experience . Certainly wouldn't recommend.
  • Interesting and informative tour
