Sea Cliff Bridge, Coalcliff

4.6
The Sea Cliff Bridge is a balanced cantilever bridge located in the northern Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The $52 million bridge links the coastal villages of Coalcliff and Clifton. Featuring two lanes of traffic, a cycleway and a walkway, the Sea Cliff Bridge boasts spectacular views and is a feature of the scenic Lawrence Hargrave Drive.HistoryThe Sea Cliff Bridge replaced a section of Lawrence Hargrave Drive that was permanently closed in August 2003 due to regular rock falls. A public outcry emerged over the road closure as Lawrence Hargrave Drive is the only road directly linking Coalcliff, Stanwell Park, Otford and Helensburgh to the northern suburbs of Wollongong. The bridge was officially opened by NSW Premier Morris Iemma at a 'ribbon cutting' ceremony on 11 December 2005, and has met with great public approval and increased business for the area's tourism industry. The Sea Cliff Bridge was named by 11-year-old schoolgirl Makenzie Russell (St. Brigids) following a naming competition opened to local primary school students. It is a popular location for Love padlocks. The Sea Cliff Bridge is one of only seven off-shore parallel to coast bridges in the world.

  • Bridge is a cool winding structure along the coast, views are good but nothing to get excited about. Good place for a walk, limited parking around and can be dangerous.  more »
  • I have drove and walked over the bridge a handful of times....I would definitely say it's worth it! If I'm going somewhere in the national park or on the drive to Wollongong, I always stop! Expect to ...  more »
  • This place is about one drive from Sydney. It is a lovely drive! Personally I like it better than the great ocean road south of Melbourne. It is very different of course but I prefer this landscape!  more »

  • Beautiful bridge with gorgeous ocean views! It is an easy walk over the bridge via a wide paved walkway separated from traffic. Make sure to take a camera! Parking can be a bit tricky to find, and be careful of other cars who may be distracted by trying to find a spot.
  • A must visit place if you drive down from Sydney to Woolongong. Beautiful view. Need to enjoy walking. Parking spot is just after you cross a bridge, so please do not drive too fast.
  • Spectacular views. Do not miss it. You can walk over the bridge and a lots of photo opportunities.
  • View of Road, walking path way and sea together is awesome!! Must visit place. You can easily spend 1-2 hours here.. we visited this place when we are on the way to Kiama!
  • It's a bridge but in the realm of. Ridges this one is top notch. Jutting off the end of a cliff over the edge of the ocean. If you've seen a car commercial in Australia you have seen the Sea Cliff Bridge.
