Sea Cliff Bridge, Coalcliff

Must see · Bridge · Landmark
The Sea Cliff Bridge, together with the adjoining Lawrence Hargrave Drive Bridge, are two road bridges that carry the scenic Lawrence Hargrave Drive across the rockface on the Illawarra escarpment, located in the northern Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The balanced cantilever and incremental launching girder bridges link the coastal villages of Coalcliff and Clifton and carry two lanes of traffic, and a pedestrian walkway. The Sea Cliff Bridge is one of only seven off-shore parallel-to-coast bridges in the world.
The Sea Cliff Bridge was named by Makenzie Russell, who at the time was an eleven-year-old student, following a naming competition opened to local primary school students. The Lawrence Hargrave Drive Bridge and the Lawrence Hargrave Drive are named in honour of Lawrence Hargrave, an Australian engineer, explorer, astronomer, inventor and aeronautical pioneer.

  • One of the most scenic places in the world. Pictures just don't do justice to this place. Absolutely breath taking views of the Sea and the cliff. Worth every mile you travel to see this beauty. Factor in at least an hour as part of your journey to stop by and admire this beauty. Many beautiful spots along the way where you may want to take some photographs. Nature at it's very best.
  • Spectacular views Great for filming with birds eye perspective. Drive to the bridge is really nice. Walk on the bridge is great! You can see the old road on the mountain behind the bridge. Parking is usually easy to find.
  • The Sea Cliff Bridge has been an iconic and eye-catching structure since it was officially opened back in 2005. Advertising executives have been drawn to it ever since and, more than a decade later, the bridge still appears in television commercials. Apparently it’s also featured in a few video games. It has certainly become a tourism drawcard for the city, with plenty of people coming to feast their eyes on the coast-hugging bridge.
  • This is a nice place to enjoy the natural beauty. You can park you car aside the read and then walk to enjoy the beauty. My family and I enjoyed this attraction :)
  • Beautiful drive through the Royal National Park. If you have motion sickness please carry tablets as the roads can get too windy for comfort. Parking options available at the end of the bridge going south and 300 metres further in designated small car park. One unisex public toilet is located here.
