  • It is a granite stone placed in memory of the first to cross Australia Burke & Wills from South to North between 1860 and 1861 with a shipment of 19 men. And they departed from Melbourne to go up North to the Gulf of Carpentaria and distance is 3250 kilometers. At that time the Australian outback had not been explored by indigenous people and, although completely unknown to European settlers, it was believed to be an inland sea. Hypothesis belied by the end of the expedition. You can enjoy a beautiful view on the hill where is placed the Castlemaine memorial.
