#3 of 9 in Nature in Canberra
Explore Namadgi National Park in the Australian Alps - a world of silent bushland, breathtaking vistas and rich Aboriginal history just a 45 minute drive from Canberra. Climb or abseil the granite outcrops, bushwalk along the Great Alpine Walk, and mountain bike, fish and 4WD. See vestiges left by Aboriginal custodians, pastoralists and gold hunters, and meet emus, kangaroos, wallabies and cockatoos in nearby Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Enjoy bushland, walking trails, fishing spots and ancient aboriginal camping sites. See wildlife, go abseiling, four wheel drive or mountain bike the many trails.

  • Down at Cooma today and the lady in the tourist centre advised me to travel back to Canberra via Namadgi Park. I am very glad that I took her advice. The Bradshaw Hut was really something - glad I did...  more »
  • Just completed this walk - 3 hrs up, 2hrs down. A fairly tough walk, especially with a fully laden back-pack. Probably more for serious hikers - walking poles and decent hiking boots, etc are strongly...  more »
  • This is a huge area of possibilities. We drove to the end of the Mt Franklin track, then walked further for 6km along the fire track and 1 km up to the top of Mt Gingera, highest point in the ACT at 1...  more »

  • Beautiful little centre full on information and great staff. Interesting books on the area and about Australia. Useful maps to purchase. Useful things to buy for little day hikes. I've always wanted to do the hike that starts there and ends in Victoria. It's my dream and I'm sure this little centre will help.
  • The visitor centre has toilets. It sells water and other drinks, crisps and snacks. There is a small exhibition. I did not see a way to fill my water bottle for free, but didn't ask - the toilets have "do not drink" signs next to the taps. Several bushwalking paths start from the visitor centre, but most of them cross the road a little further on, where there is also parking. So it is better to drive slightly past the visitor centre and start the walk from there.
  • Great centre- perfect stop before and after a mountain climb
  • Beautiful little park. You can choose from a range of walks including a 1-2 hour one (halfway up mount tennant, to the lookout that can been see in these photos where there is a timber bench seat next to a large boulder), which boasts excellent views with minimal effort. And then you can do mount tennant which might take most of your day, and this one boasts even more spectacular views, but take water and food! Staff at the centre are very knowledgable, and there are a few maps you can choose from on site.
  • Family day out, great history of our Nations Capital
