  • It's a secret picnic spot! With a shallow Brook, small children will have fun walking in the water on a warm day. Peaceful and quite... When other Canberrans don't all have the same idea! :)
  • Such a beautiful location. Great picnic site and a big playground for kids. The cool, shallow water is perfect for wading, but I'd recommend keeping your thongs or sandals on to avoid slipping on the stones. Great view of the dam too, and a nice place for a stroll. Only a short drive for a peaceful nature getaway.
  • Cotter campground was a beautiful location. The best part was swimming in the river whenever it got too hot. If you are dependent on technology and do not have solar there are a couple things to consider: there is no cell signal (you can get some if you walk up a hill across the road) and no power. It can get busy so the best time to get a spot is Monday to Thursday. The facilities were alright. There are only two showers which is not enough for how busy it gets. If you are squeamish you may not like the facilities as it is riddled with insects. My partner saw a red-back on the men's side. I phoned the council before-hand to check if you can book ahead and was told an incorrect price for staying. It is $12 a night per adult (I was told $5-10). You can pay the honesty box or the ranger. Overall we had a pleasant stay and thoroughly enjoyed the area.
  • A great, well loved picnic area. Lots of tables, barbecues, and shelter. A nice little walk to see the dam and potter along the river. And occasionally you can spot wildlife - wombats, emus, black cockatoos.
  • Great playground for the kids. Can get very busy, but usually enough room to put the picnic stuff down.

Where to stay in Canberra

To stay comfortably near most main attractions in Canberra, choose a hotel in the city's central district. If you're a bit more budget-minded, look for a guesthouse in a neighborhood farther away from the city center. Residential areas offer more parking and quieter rooms at a fraction of the price charged by big-name centrally located hotels. Rental apartments spread across Canberra serve as another cozy option and offer lodgings ranging from simply furnished to luxurious five-star properties.
