Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra

(4.5/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Explore the many paths at Australian National Botanic Gardens. They will take you through the national collection of Australian native plants, including banksias, grevillias, and callistemons. The main loop is about 1.5 km (0.9 mi) of mostly flat terrain and well-marked paths. The glasshouse features ferns and pitcher plants, while the treetop walk and gully boardwalk showcase the colors and sounds of the rainforest. Birdlife is abundant (honeyeaters, wattlebirds, and even a Satin bowerbird). It is not uncommon to also see wallabies and echidna bumbling about and lizards sunbathing on rocks. • Near the Botanic Gardens is a Bushland Walk which skirts Black Mountain and ends in a peaceful view of the Lake. An easy escape from the bustle of the city. Canberra is the Bush Capital.  more »
  • Staff very helpful and lovely gardens to walk through. Entry is free and accessible by public bus. Cafe wasn't available when we went as a wedding was there. Very enjoyable visit.  more »
  • We went there for lunch but were disappointed with the menu. However we were enchanted by the water dragon under the table. The stroll through the rain forest was the highlight of our visit. As always...  more »

  • Nice way to spend a couple of hours walking around the gardens. The possibility to walk to the summit of the black mountain makes it a half day experience. Particularly loved the aboriginal track and the water dragons. Parking ticket is the only cost.
  • Beautiful place for a walk and to know more native plants!! Highly recommended the walk up to the Telstra tower, it would be nicer if some signs would’ve been placed.
  • Beautiful gardens. Wide variety of sights to see, from the lush and cool rainforest gully, to the hot and barren red centre. Located on the side of black mountain, so reasonable fitness is required to walk up and around the gardens. Nice café.
  • Great place to visit for whatever reason. Beautiful gardens and a lovely way to spend a few hours.
  • What I love the most is the rainforest gully. It is beautiful and we'll maintained. Definitely worth a visit.
