National Park Garden
Explore the many paths at Australian National Botanic Gardens. They will take you through the national collection of Australian native plants, including banksias, grevillias, and callistemons. The main loop is about 1.5 km (0.9 mi) of mostly flat terrain and well-marked paths. The glasshouse features ferns and pitcher plants, while the treetop walk and gully boardwalk showcase the colors and sounds of the rainforest. Birdlife is abundant (honeyeaters, wattlebirds, and even a Satin bowerbird). It is not uncommon to also see wallabies and echidna bumbling about and lizards sunbathing on rocks. • We went to the Gardens in the holidays to see the dinosaurs and the kids had a great time. We walked through the gardens and had coffee at the end and it was well set out and heaps to look at for ever...  more »
  • A really great botanical garden. very many different aspects and even a part where the Outback is represented! Very cool! Only drawback: difficult to achieve their own car without! Advantage: Admission free!

  • As someone who is botanically inclined, I have visited these gardens many times. My most recent visit until July 2017 (about 4 years ago) I thought the place was looking a little tired. On this visit,...  more »

  • A great place to rediscover the plants. Ample parking (paid). Informative free tours. Area is large but can tailor to how much walking you want to do. A smaller kids trail made it fun for the little ones. Several areas which are nice for picnics. Washroom clean. Water bubblers available. Cafe which can get a little crowded.
  • Poor service, unhelpful and unprofessional service at register and table. Frozen, oven cooked bread served that was still raw dough in centre. Tasteless dips. 10 dollar hot chips. Coffee was fine. Openly complaining about other customers while serving me at register. It now looks very pretty though.
  • Arrived at 2:45. Was told had to drink out of paper cups because they closed at 3. Said we didn't like paper cups as they were not recyclable. Then as we sat down to drink, told to drink up fast as they were closing at 3. Very unwelcoming and dismissive. Perhaps they feel they don't have to treat their customers well as they have a captive clientele because of the delightful environment, but we won't be coming again.
  • Such a humble, beautiful reminder of nature's beauty. The native plants and different temperate zones are showcased gorgeously, and I have walked away from my visit with a few gardening ideas of my own :) Green thumb alert!
  • Stunning and beautiful place. Lots variety of plants come from different state and still spreading. The free tour guide is awesome.

Where to stay in Canberra

To stay comfortably near most main attractions in Canberra, choose a hotel in the city's central district. If you're a bit more budget-minded, look for a guesthouse in a neighborhood farther away from the city center. Residential areas offer more parking and quieter rooms at a fraction of the price charged by big-name centrally located hotels. Rental apartments spread across Canberra serve as another cozy option and offer lodgings ranging from simply furnished to luxurious five-star properties.
