Where to stay in Cairns

Though Cairns seems to offer an endless selection of cozy rooms, most budget-friendly options remain fully booked through the high season, stretching from June to September. Reserve early if you want a hotel room packed with amenities, or look for alternative lodgings in the city's smaller inns. As the backpacker capital of northern Queensland, Cairns features dozens of economical hostels providing comfortable beds and free Wi-Fi. For something far more luxurious, look for centrally located rental apartments with spacious rooms and harbor views.

  • Loved it, the owner John is knowledgeable and easy to talk to, has an extensive collection to show. Make an appointment as he's always away on shows and buying more good stuff. If you like the samurai culture and Japanese swords then it's a must visit. Haven't ever seen such a nice collection anywhere else in Australia.
  • Extremely helpful and knowledgeable with a wide range of authentic pieces. Just check if he's open by phoning ahead as the owner is often in Japan buying new pieces!
