  • "We have booked 1 diving with my wife, specifying that we are beginners while certified scuba diver." "No problem you will anyway an instructor to help you" we told t. After 2 hours of boat deafening on an old raffiau that was not possible, we dock another boat inked near the fence. On-site instructor in question learn with surprise as he will have to frame 6 people including 3 beginners which me (another supposed to be here but was sick). As say you he was swamped and that an incident nearly me cost the lives (well maybe to t he a bit exaggerated to scare me I don't know). In short, once back on the boat, I m quite politely explains with the instructor who gets upset and refuses to take back me for a second dive. And actually, like the other reviews say it, two dives are in the same place! So few interesting! My advice: choose a company with a staff of serious and professional, patient and friendly, especially if you are a beginner diver otherwise your exit could be a bad memory.

  • We did the 2 night, 3 day liveaboard just after Christmas. The previous reviews are accurate: old creaky ship, friendly staff, decent equipment, delicious food, great dive sites with plenty to see. If...  more »

  • Rob, Richard, Mike, Isaac, and the rest of the crew were absolutely phenomenal! Can’t believe there are actually negative reviews about this place. We did the Island Diver day cruise and it was the best experience we had. Everyone was so chill, very knowledgeable and informative but the best part was the dive locations. I have a saltwater tank at home and it was an amazing and humbling experience to be able to see the fish and coral in the natural environment. It was also awesome to see how protective the crew was about limiting any sort of harm or damage to the environment as well. They always wanted to make sure that most of all, we were having fun. Honestly the best experience of our 3 weeks trip to Australia for the first time and would highly recommend them to anyone!!!
  • Loved the experience and really appreciated how the staff really wanted to make sure that we had a fun and safe time. They were very friendly and went above and beyond to be accommodating to help us with some booking complications and to make arrangements for us to do further training with them. Lunch and the fresh fruit was great. This is one of the last small privately-owned diving companies and I would be sad to see fade away. I would recommend booking with them.
  • We did the standard $140 snorkeling day trip. CDC served their purpose, which was to get us out to the Great Barrier Reef. I cannot recommend them to anyone who has not snorkeled before. We have gone snorkeling a number of times at beginner reefs in Hawaii, and I was still uncomfortable with the lack of safety instruction and general guidance we were given by CDC. I indicated on my sheet that I was only comfortable swimming the shorter distances for which buoyancy vests were supposedly required. For our first snorkel, when we were suiting up, I was not automatically given one and had to ask. The group received no instruction on how to use the masks and snorkels (fortunately, we knew already), and no guidance on wetsuit sizing at all. We were barely given any safety instructions, and had no idea how we were to know when to come back in. Once we got in the water, we were on our own. After lunch, we went out for our second snorkel, and Seth (? He was from Canada.) who was friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful and had just joined us, delivered the safety instruction we should have received the first time. He went through all the hand signals and so on. He also joined us in the water, and took us around pointing out interesting things. He also offered to help tow in anyone who was too tired. Had 5 Seths run the show, CDC would be getting 5 stars. But our experience up until that point had been pretty impersonal and lacking in essential information and guidance. If I needed something, I had to be willing to ask.
  • I would 100% recommend booking with them! I have never snorkeled before and they made it the time of my life. Got to see many fishes, the staff were amazing and a great lunch! My husband did the intro dive and had a great time and picked it up right away.
  • Been diving with CDC for past 5 years a three day trip to the Reef. Good equipment nice staff 😍 the Kangaroo Explorer. The Scottish cook makes amazing food between the dives. Good dive sites, and yes there is bleaching of the coral but a wide spread problem for great barrier reef. That reminds you all that we must take care of our environment. Had some awesome dives thanks Jeff for 5 ways was amazing the caves and caverns. And Brad next time I will navigate spares you a long swim back, 😂 no was good diving with you and other guys and girls from CDC!!! Till next time guys I'll be 🔙!

Where to stay in Cairns

Though Cairns seems to offer an endless selection of cozy rooms, most budget-friendly options remain fully booked through the high season, stretching from June to September. Reserve early if you want a hotel room packed with amenities, or look for alternative lodgings in the city's smaller inns. As the backpacker capital of northern Queensland, Cairns features dozens of economical hostels providing comfortable beds and free Wi-Fi. For something far more luxurious, look for centrally located rental apartments with spacious rooms and harbor views.
