Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, Bundaberg

4.3
#2 of 10 in Parks in Bundaberg
Take a colorful walk through Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, noted for a huge variety of vibrant water lilies growing along a tranquil lagoon. Wooden walkways take visitors through a number of lush areas spread across this large park, which is home to over 100 species of birds. Bring a picnic and relax under a big tree, or enjoy an exciting ride on the steam-powered train, which winds its way around the gardens and along the lagoon. Arguably the park’s most notable feature is the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, celebrating the achievements of aviator Bert Hinkler, the first person to fly solo from England to Australia. This museum includes an exhibition hall with multimedia displays, as well as a flight simulator, theater, and five historic aircraft. • The botanic gardens are a great place to visit for people of any age. There are several different areas to explore by foot or bike and there is a steam engine running on Sundays that my kids love. The cafe isn't great but also isn't awful either. There is a small to medium playground in the corner. There are some museums but I've never been inside them. I would recommend expolring the paths away from the museum and cafe area as there is lots of wildlife and it tenda to be a bit quieter.
  • Absolutely well worth visiting. Lots of great areas with plantings and having the lakes with the water birds nesting makes this a Botanical Gardens an interesting place to visit. Loved being able to spot turtles or tortoises? swimming in the water and spotting many different birds in the area many of which I couldn't identify because the information boards were very difficult to read ie need upgrading or at least a good clean may help.
  • The gardens and museum are a great place to get away from it all in the city - a little piece of heaven. I found the coffee was good quality and well made. An enjoyable experience
  • Plenty to see and do. Most attractions have an entrance fee. Bring a picnic rug and some lunch. Take a train ride through the park. Duck food available from Cafe for 50 cents. Good family day out.
  • Was visiting Bundaberg from Victoria to meet a mate for the first time and he took me around to a number of sites. He didn't think it was worth visiting but I asked him to take me there anyway. I was impressed! They were only small but nicely laid out with a cafe, museum (both closed), a special area for weddings (outdoor), lake that one could walk around, tourist railway, toilets, a Japanese garden and a special part of the gardens that were specifically rainforest orientated. There were plenty of types of birds and lizards to interest keen photographers. If the museum and cafe were open one could easily spend half a day there, otherwise it could be traversed in an hour. One interesting feature is the original home (from England) of Bert Hinkler which was dismantled and rebuilt brick by brick on the site. Would recommend a visit.
