Cape Bruny Lighthouse, Bruny Island

Bruny Island Lighthouse Tours

Australia’s southern most lighthouse tour

Experience the Southern most lighthouse tour in Australia. Cape Bruny Lighthouse is the only lighthouse in Southern Tasmania opened to the public and tours are operated by Bruny Island Safaris. Towering above the spectacular rugged coastline on the southern tip of Bruny Island with sweeping views of the wild Southern Ocean. Regular sightings of migrating whales, Albatross, Gannets and many other pelagic species can be seen gliding over the ocean swells. We have even had a wedge Tailed Eagle glide so close to the tower we could almost touch it. There are great photo opportunities at every point of the compass. Climb the spiral staircase to the lighthouse balcony and experience the spectacular vistas of the South West Wilderness and small islands dotting the coastline. The lighthouse prisms are still in working order and amazing to wonder what it was like to be a lighthouse keeper.

Operates daily 10am – 3pm (Self drive)

$17.50 Adults / $15.00 Children (5 to16years)

  • We had a great time. Our guide, Matt, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We spent a good deal of time in the lighthouse lamp area where he explained how the beacon worked and then we went outside on...  more »
  • It was a cold and blustery day, but the visit was quite interesting. Especially liked the little museum at the parking area.  more »
  • What a great experience. Chris, the lighthouse guide could not have been better, knowledge was superb. It was a little tough for this 65 year old but I am thankful I did it. The hill to the lighthouse...  more »

  • I went on the cape Bruny sunset tour and it was just amazing. I called up before hand to let the know tour guide know I was going to propose to my girlfriend up there and he made sure it all went smoothly without her knowing. The views were just amazing also the the guide was a great bloke as well as the receptionist Tiara.
  • Drive to the lighthouse is long and nothing much to do and see alone the way. Scenery around the lighthouse is spectacular. We walked up to the top deck . Guide we had was very informative and friendly. Flexible tour times.
  • We have been to Cape Bruny LIghthouse a few times before but this is the first time it was open for tours. The guide was excellent sharing lots of fun facts with enthusiasm. I think it only cost $15 per adult and it was dead easy to book. You can either book before you go online or rock up at the lighthouse itself. There are plenty of tour times though tour buses get priority. If you can’t get on a tour straight away you can go for a walk on Lighthouse Beach first then come back for the tour. It takes about an hour to drive there if you’re coming from the ferry. It is really close to the campground. Like much of Bruny there isn’t any cafe or refreshments so we had a lovely lunch at the winery which was on the way back to where we were staying. So if you’re into lighthouses and magnificent views I would definitely make the effort to tour Cape Bruny Lighthouse.
  • Great view.. 25 km of travel via the gravel road to get there is not so pleasent.. No food or coffee available on site . However the 360 degree view is spectacular..
  • Amazing uninterrupted view from the top. Was worth driving about an hour from the Bruny Island ferry terminal. We haven't done the tour but walked around and seen some mesmerising views. The drive up to the lighthouse was fun. Overall, a great experience and if you are at Bruny Island it's a must do.
