Customs House, Brisbane

(4/5 based on 55+ reviews on the web)
Heritage-listed Customs House, originally built in 1889, underwent a full restoration in the 1990s, which included a complete reconstruction of the central staircase from locally sourced timbers. Expert craftsmen worked from original plans and designs, found in the State Library’s archives, to replicate the original construction as precisely as possible. This landmark building is known for its distinctive copper dome, black and white marble interior features, and an iron balustrade with the initials VR (for Victoria Regina) wrought on it in honor of Queen Victoria. No longer used as originally intended (for the collection of customs duties), the building hosts regular concerts, lectures, and special dinners, and includes a restaurant, function center, and an art gallery, located on the bottom floor. • In the middle in Cityhopper go to Eagle Street North key, from story bridge to saw in the Brisbane River. This was thought to be building something, you look,. It was a splendid building with a feel of the history.

  • The place is great, but please do not be fooled by that. Go for a visit to see the building but not to have the food. The food is really just a "wanna be" fancy fine dining menu. Everything sounds delicious as you read it, but unfortunately nothing really stood out. The entrees were very plain and uninspiring, the main (pork belly) was far from being a great dish and the crackling was a joke (it was one of those snacks you get from the supermarket shelves). All really overpriced. Food really below average for a fine dining experience. Please do not waste your money, with the same money you can get real "fine dining" food elsewhere, for sure.
  • Fantastic service with delicious food and cocktails. Views are second to none. Well priced for the quality of the dining experience.
  • Great service and the food was really good! I had the market fish which was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere in the restaurant is nice and quiet and it would be ideal if you wanted to take someone out for a special dinner. The location is really nice with a parking facility really close. Well worth a try if you are a local or visiting Brisbane.
  • Was there recently for a function. Reasonable experience although expected better standard due to the high price. Generally recommended. :)
  • We came for high tea in October 16 and the food was disappointing for the price. Although this location is fabulous you get better quality high tea at all of Stamford, Sofitel and Bacchus
