Fitzgerald River National Park is a national park in Western Australia, southeast of Perth, in the Shire of Ravensthorpe and the Shire of Jerramungup.DescriptionThe park includes the Barren Mountains and Eyre Range and the Fitzgerald River as well as incorporating the Fitzgerald Biosphere. There are 62 plant species which are unique to the park and a further 48 are rarely found elsewhere.Recording almost 40,000 visitors in 2008, the park received $20 million in funding from the federal government's economic stimulus plan with the state government contributing an additional $20 million. The investment is to be used to redevelop and seal 80km of roads within the park, construct a walk trail from Bremer Bay to Hopetoun and upgrade existing recreational facilities.Point Ann is one of the two places (the other is Head of the Bight) along Australia's coast where southern right whales come to calve during their winter migration.Within the National Park is the Quaalup Homestead Wilderness Retreat (now run as a hotel) that was built in 1858 by the Wellstead Family. In 1890, the Hassell family took over the pastoral lease and the homestead. The park can be accessed from the western side via Bremer Bay, or from the eastern side via Hopetoun. The central area of the park is only accessible with a four-wheel drive vehicle or on foot.

  • Such a beautiful and special place. Unique. Great place to view whales at Point Ann (mums and their calves) and see stunning West Australian wildflowers, many only found in this area.  more »

  • A most beautiful place. Quite a few wild flowers around even though it's end of summer. This place would be awesome in the spring!!!! The government has spent millions of dollars recently upgrading roads and putting in new facilities. Highly recommended.
  • Wonderful location. Enjoyed all parts of the Park that we visited. Highlight would have to be the views from the top of East Mt Barren.
  • Even from Bremer Bay it is a bit of a drive. It is however not congested and you can feel like you are in the remote bushland. Although the highlights are meant to be at Point Ann, many of the smaller climbs and tracks are worth a look. The gravel corrugations can get a bit much though! Not really a place to rush through.
  • Beautiful. A must visit for anyone travelling near the park. Eastern camp sites near hopetoun is more tourist friendly with paved road access but south western camp sites are more for off road vehicles. Most of the wildlife I saw was on the back roads and around dusk. Kangaroos, wallabies and emus (especially near The edges near farm land), snakes and birds or prey
  • Fantastic park with gorgeous flora and stunning views. Has a variety of campgrounds and day use areas with great lookouts. Plenty of trails from ready to hard.
