An unforgettable night star viewing experience considering that the place is run by a group of volunteers. 10/10 would recommend. Just don't go on a day where there's clouds or when the moon is very b...  more »

Had a great time at the observatory, looking at the southern hemisphere sky. The weather was great, the sky was clear and lots of visitors at the tour. The tour is split into groups so we get to rotate between the domes. The onsite astronomers are very knowledgeable and they are happy to answer your questions. Getting there was easy enough.

I f I was limited to one word for a Google Review it would be this; "Breathtaking". A more substantial review would talk about how important the PO is to Australia's history, and also it's relationship with international astronomy and science. This integral part of WA's heritage was sadly declined more funding from the State Government in 2012 which was a stupid decision. thanks to a hardcore group of Volunteers who created the POVG and signed over the daily running of the PO in July 2016, it is now slowly becoming great again. Whatever you do, do not miss out on an opportunity to visit the Observatory, it will blow you away. I was lucky enough to have a behind the scenes tour of the research and library areas of the Administration building and they have artifacts dating back to 1902, one telescope (still in use) was built in 1896 and some of the blueprints date back 100 years plus, oh and let's not get started on the Star Atlas that was written in 1729, yup they have a book on display that is older than Australia...#justsayin'

I really enjoyed the evening sky tour. 8pm till 10:30 for $40. The staff are very knowledgeable and made it really fun. The range of telescopes we looked through was impressive.
