Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo
Categories: Architectural Buildings, Tourist Spots
One of the largest Australian churches and the country's second tallest after St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne, Sacred Heart Cathedral presents a fine example of English Gothic architecture. The church was built mostly through the collection efforts of the first Catholic priest on the Bendigo goldfields. Inside are intricate marble floors and a huge pipe organ. From outside, the church is easy to spot, with an 87 m (285 ft) steel-framed spire towering above the church. Because this is a functioning cathedral, you can attend mass here.
