Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo

4.7
One of the largest Australian churches and the country's second tallest after St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne, Sacred Heart Cathedral presents a fine example of English Gothic architecture. The church was built mostly through the collection efforts of the first Catholic priest on the Bendigo goldfields. Inside are intricate marble floors and a huge pipe organ. From outside, the church is easy to spot, with an 87 m (285 ft) steel-framed spire towering above the church. Because this is a functioning cathedral, you can attend mass here. • OMG a beautiful gothic majestic church. It sits up on the hill & you can see the steeple from almost anywhere within the town centre.A beautiful grotto up in the corner at the rear before you enter into Sacred Heart with roses around .What an impressive place of worship.Tranquil.I Said a prayer for Ma. Really enjoyed the walk up to see her. You should take time to see it if you come to Bendigo
  • Amazing. Well worth a visit. Incredible size and detail. Praise be to God!
  • I saw the light. And now i'm blind
  • Beautiful Cathedral. Well worth a look around in.
  • One of the vocal parts of town, the cathedral is a sight to behold at night. The church is still actively in use and if you get a chance to look inside it's just as beautiful.

Where to stay in Bendigo

Just like the city itself, places to stay in Bendigo present a mix of historical and modern. The center of the city boasts a selection of hotels and apartments housed in Victorian mansions--which also happen to be some of Bendigo's main tourist attractions. Just a couple of blocks away, however, you can choose from a number of 21st-century establishments. For a more peaceful setting, venture outside the city center to find plenty of smaller bed and breakfasts and motels, as well as fully equipped RV parks and campsites.
