  • Great commentary about the platypus and echidna. Close up view of the platypus swimming in tanks. Then we went and watched the echidna being fed. Had to stand still as some waddled over our feet. Grea...  more »

  • PLATIPUS A bill like a duck - fur like an otter - tail like a beaver - and feet like a duck. They feed under water - lay eggs fertilized by the male. The pups are born like chickens but suckle like kittens. They carry wood for their nest gripped by their tails which are then used to position the pieces of wood and mud on the land side nest. I think God laughs every time He remembers creating them. Perhaps he gave Adam an opportunity to help create the Platypus which he messed up and that's why it's so peculiar. An added point - The fur on the tail is more like sand paper and along with the bill these appear to be 'stuck on' appendages. But the Platypus is my favourite animal and appropriately found only in Australia. It's a must to visit!
  • What a wonderful experience! To be up close (and personal) with these two unique creatures was just amazing. Our guide, Sharon, was passionate about the information she imparted. Her knowledge of these creatures was extraordinary. She obviously LOVES her job! The echidna room was fabulous - they wandered around your feet and watching them feed was a highlight.
  • Very interesting, worth the visit, they have echidnas as well to show. And just next door is the Seahorse farm also a must see. Get the pass at Beaconsfield mining museum (also worth a visit) for all three and save money
  • Great experience. Highly recommend. So glad I went. Will never forget veering the Platypuses.
  • staff friendly, good experience but guided tour gives you not enough time with animals. 45min tour includes watching 15min of telly. unlike say bonorong which i highly rate. it is not the same type of environment admittedly, but 15min with a type of animal (platypus and echinda) is not enough at all.
