Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit, Bathurst

4.8
#1 of 12 in Scenic Drive in New South Wales
Try to catch a race at Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit if you're lucky enough to be in town when one's scheduled. This famous and unusual track features a 174 m (570 ft) difference between its highest and lowest points and uncommonly steep grades for a modern circuit. Tight turns, long straights, and steep hills make for thrilling races for both drivers and spectators. The track serves as a public road when organized races aren't using it, so take your own car for a spin if you're traveling with one and the track is empty. • Stayed overnight on our way north. Stayed at McPhillamy Park. Georgous views of Bathurst. Large area but no facilities available - definitely only for self contained set ups. A bit noisy after dark wi...  more »

  • Even at normal speeds, it's a great place. Going there gives you an appreciation of how steep it is and the drop off on some of the corners. Playing "spot the tourist" going the wrong way around the t...  more »

  • One of the absolute BEST motor racing cicuits in the world. With the updated pit facilities, it's as modern as it can be for awhile. I DO wish they'd upgrade the fastest lap timing tower though, as its graphics are like an old calculator, and only allow for 2 numbers to be displayed. Not super handy - especially at the 12hr - as a lot of cars now run 3 numbers. The track resurfacing is brilliant, very smooth. Lastly, it'd be nice if the speed limit was 80 in a few places, rather than 60 all around the track. And please, DRIVE ROUND IT ANTICLOCKWISE, AND LEAVE THE CARAVAN AT HOME. I've nearly been hit a few times by people taking a wide line round blind corners going the wrong way around it. Several people on bikes have been killed because of that. Not good, obviously.
  • To say the least this is one of my favourite places in Sydney. Mount Panorama holds so many memories my first time ever out on the track or the first time I met Craig Lowndes these are all very special and dear to me. It is worth a day trip to the mountain to drive the track, check out the museum but most importantly be sure to stop at the skyline and say hello to Peter Brock.
  • This is one of the most iconic race tracks in the world! Any given day it is a public road that you can actually drive, at 60km/h offcourse, but still in how many places can you actually drive the track. However if you come on race day it is a great place to enjoy a bit of camping or just roaming around the general admission areas to get a view of all the action. If you are a petrol head this is a must see place.
  • A nice circuit to visit, and great to be able to camp infield. Fantastic to have been able to get a couple of laps of the Mount in.. ;)
  • Australia's greatest racetrack with easy access all around. Just prepare to pay a bit extra to get to the top.
