A great plsce to visit in conjunction with Sovereign Hill - very interesting. It covers both the Ballarat goldfields as well as the broader story of gold.

It was interesting with lots of details of the history of gold in Australia and around the world. The museum focuses on the gold rushes in Ballarat and Australia, but also shows modern uses of the material and it's alloys. Also shows foreign histories of Gold such as the Conquistadors and foreign currencies. Every now and then, a group of asian tourists would walk through taking photos everywhere, talking very loudly and walking in front of me to look at things which was pretty rude.
Good information about the history of gold mining, especially in Ballarat. It also has a cycling museum inside it with history of cycling in Australia. It was a very nice experience to visit both museums.
