Yalumba, Angaston

4.5
Yalumba is a winery located near the town of Angaston, South Australia in the Barossa Valley wine region. It was founded by a British brewer, Samuel Smith, who emigrated to Australia with his family from Wareham, Dorset in August 1847 aboard the ship China. Upon arriving in Australia in December, Smith built a small house on the banks of the River Torrens. He lived there less than a year before moving north to Angaston where he purchased a 30-acre (120,000 m2) block of land on the settlement's south eastern boundary. He named his property "Yalumba" after an indigenous Australian word for "all the land around". In 1849 Samuel Smith, along with his son Sidney, planted Yalumba's first vineyards, beginning the Yalumba dynasty. Today Yalumba is Australia's oldest family-owned winery.

  • The best winery I have been to so far.. would love to go there again. The staff are very helpful and they have a great selection of wines.
  • We had a great time visiting this winery. It is the oldest run family vineyard in the Barossa Valley. Anna in the tasting room is exceptional! She is very friendly and fun to chat with while she pours their great wines. She is very knowledgeable and is a great "Wine Room Ambassador"! The grounds are very spectacular to walk around and get pictures.
  • Beautiful setting, lovely wines. Our server, JS (Jess) was very hospitable and knowledgeable. The food tray was yummy. All around it was a very enjoyable experience. Thank you JS
  • This is a must visit, beautiful buildings and surrounds. Great service too. Many wines you can get in your local bottle shop, so it's good to try something different.
