Adelaide Zoo, Adelaide

4.2
#1 of 6 in Zoos & Aquariums in South Australia
Gaze at over 1,800 animals covering more than 300 species at Adelaide Zoo. Australia's second oldest zoo and the only major city zoo running as a nonprofit offers exhibits of wildlife from four continents. At Immersion, walk through Southeast Asian jungle and come practically face-to-face with Sumatran Tigers and Orangutans. A behind-the-scenes tour brings you up close with a range of animals and into normally off-limits areas. Pay special attention to the former Elephant House and the entrance on Frome Road; both of these are on the National Trust of South Australia's architectural heritage list. • My partner and I are serial zoo goers when we travel. The last time we were in Adelaide we visited the zoo. Honestly the BEST zoo I've been to. Amazing enclosures, the only pandas in Australia (worth it on their own) friendly staff, the zoo experiences are really well advertised. I did the lemurs and I will never forget it. If in Adelaide HIGHLY recommend this zoo.
  • This Zoo is setting a fantastic example for captive conservation and how useful it can be. There is a great range of animals in many new and state of the art enclosures, a great place to take kids or come with your partner and take a leisurely walk around. Don't feel like you have to see everything in one day, come back another time and get a good look at all the exhibits.
  • Animal displays/ enclosures improving all the time. Great lush trees and foliage providing plenty of shade. Good information, maps and guides to provide assistance. Behind the scene tours and activities available. Meals and snacks available from several service points. Very family focused. Education and conservation focused as well. Open almost every day of three year.
  • Staff was really dedicated and efficient, they helped making the whole experience truly enjoyable. All the exhibits are impeccably maintained and I liked seeing employees of all ages, everyone was absolutely wonderful, especially the lovely lady at the information counter. I would suggest someone controlling the number of visitors going in the petting zoo area, I thought there were too many people at the time today and the animals could get distressed. We were a group of five, two mums and three kids including one toddler and we all had a fantastic day, very easy and accessible, highly recommended for families.
  • I love animals in their natural habitat and so does my kiddo. And like most of animal lovers, it hurts me deep when I see little animals confined in cages. Even though Adelaide Zoo is indoor, I loved it. Well, the reason is, they have a lot of species that are near extinction and they are working on helping them to survive. Sadly, most of these species wont last in wild if left alone. The directions/signage in this zoo were confusing than all of the zoos in victoria. However, there were a lots of volunteers around to help if required. Worth a mention is the shady track all around the zoo due to tall bamboo trees that makes your visit a bit comfortable on sunny days. Children zoo and playground are star attractions of this zoo. We had to do couple of rounds to find a parking spot which was free on a weekend.
