Adelaide Oval, Adelaide

4.6
One of the country’s most iconic sporting venues, Adelaide Oval holds an elevated status as the home of cricket and Australian rules football in South Australia. Imposing and white-roofed, the stadium towers above the leafy suburb of North Adelaide. Constructed in 1871, the 2012 redevelopment of Adelaide Oval brought the historic stadium in line with the modern demands of large sporting venues. The stadium often hosts concerts, with artists such as Elton John, Madonna, and Fleetwood Mac having performed there. • My husband and I recently attended the Adelaide Oval tour. This tour is scheduled to go for 90 minutes but ours certainly went a little overtime. The tour is very extensive and takes you to many diffe...  more »
  • Central, refurbed and fabulous. Great for cricket, easy to get a drink, half decent food (which you can't say about many stadiums) and heaps of toilets - what more do you need. Also a great vibe. Wort...  more »
  • Went here with our 2 children aged 4 & 6. We just got GA tickets, we got there an hour or so before the game to secure ourselves a place on the lawn so the kids could see. Was a great atmosphere and t...  more »

  • That's a gem for sports fans as well as athletes. Clean and well arranged. Easy access and toilet available near all gates. However the best part about sports is decency. They have set of rules that you need to follow and that includes decent clothes you must wear when you come to the game. All gates have cafeterias and they have good restaurants attached to the stadium. You must watch a game in here. Tickets can be bought near all gates.
  • Amazing stadium. Great facilities. No matter the event, always a good atmosphere, walking across the footbridge offers great views and the newly opened Riverbank precinct adds ding options, food and drink at Adelaide oval is pricey, maybe think about bringing your own food if it is a family event
  • The Adelaide Oval remains one of cricket's most picturesque Test venues despite recent developments to increase the capacity and upgrade the facilities. Its position, situated amid gardens and trees and with the spire of St Peter's Cathedral as a backdrop, gives it a quintessentially English feel. Established 1873 Capacity 50,000 Playing area 190.2m long, 126.2m wide Floodlights Yes End names City End, Cathedral End Home team South Australia Other sports Australian Rules Football (since 1877), Rugby League (1997-1998) as well as archery, athletics, baseball, cycling, american football, highland games, hockey, lacrosse, lawn tennis, rugby union, quoits and soccer
  • Such a beautiful venue day or night. Plenty of food/drink kiosks, amenities etc. Has lifts/escalators to get to the upper levels. Love going for different sporting events throughout the year.
  • Adelaide oval has been one of my favourite places to visit since I was a boy watching cricket. It holds many memories of sporting achievements and great times with friends and family. I never dreamed that the oval would end up looking this epic and providing such a fresh experience with a familiar feel. I look around the new stands with fond memories of the old and great expectations of the future of my city. To me it's a welcome change and that change culture should be embraced by all radaladians. The roof of the southern stand is an engineering marvel. I wonder "when" this design will be mirrored on the northern side increasing the capacity of the ground to 80k? It's so great to have the footy in town also!

Where to stay in Adelaide

Most budget-friendly rooms in Adelaide cluster in the central business district, with plenty of backpacker accommodations located near the city's central bus station. Adelaide also boasts an outstanding public transport system, which makes staying outside the central areas a viable and economical option for sightseers. Look for quiet and affordable rooms in North Adelaide, a leafy neighborhood filled with an eclectic mix of shopping and dining options. Book early for visits during peak season, and expect higher prices on the weekends and during school holidays.
