  • Abbotsford Convent is a great space. What started life as a Convent is now home to an eclectic group of people. It features in many films and Artists call the place home. There are a couple of places to eat and is near the Collingwood Children's farm. The convent has paid parking directly opposite although durung the week can fill up quickly. Saturday's see a Farmers market with a great range of produce - entry is a gold coin donation. Worth while to take the time to walk around.
  • Great little hidden gem in the back streets of inner Melbourne. Catholics nuns used to coordinate with local authorities to round up single mums and other vulnerable women off the streets of Melbourne and make them work for nothing. Free labour for the church, so the whole complex has a very Oliver Twist kind of feel to it, with very imposing Victorian buildings that you can now wander through and explore. One wonders what went on in the "Bishop's Parlour" back in ye olden days, but fortunately the whole place is now converted into performance art spaces, community halls and offices for a number of good not-for-profits that work with the local community. The local cafes and pubs also have a great atmosphere, particularly on weekends. The local museum is well worth a visit if you have an interest in local history. It's simple, informative with interesting videos etc, housed in the original chapel.
  • Love the place. Great cafe and bakery there, as well as the famous and welcoming Lentil as Anything charity restaurant, always with tasty food. Outdoor space is family friendly, I've thrown a baby shower there myself. There's always people gathering on the lawn and enjoying the sun.
  • Feels like after a 15-20 minutes drive from CBD you end up in a totally different country in a different age. Everything here has a history. Beautiful churches, library and other constractions made of stone and surrounded by forest. Looks like a little kingdom far away from the modern cities. Surprisingly but there is a lot to do here: from art galleries and church services to massage therapy and cafes. We enjoyed our time and will be happy to visit it more often.
  • Weird creepy religious buildings with a lot of history and hirable function rooms.:/ Interesting walk around and animal farm in the city. Kids loved the petting session with the cute guinea pigs and the peacocks wandering around. Expensive food and drinks at cafes. Overall not bad. Good for a once off trip to see it and read about the history in Melbourne.
