Yervand Kochar Museum, Yerevan

(4.9/5 based on 40 reviews on the web)
Appreciate colorful early modernist 3D paintings and graphic artworks at Yervand Kochar Museum, a small museum in downtown Yerevan. The building houses a substantial collection of work detailing the life and opus of Ervand Kocher, a prominent Soviet Armenian avant-garde sculptor and a pioneer of 4D art thought. Known in the West as the founder of the Painting in Space movement in the 1930s, synthesizing painting, graphic art, and sculpture, he moved back to Armenia in 1936 to become one of the state's best-known artists. With works representing all of the cities in which the artist gained prominence--Tbilisi, Paris, and Yerevan--you can get a great overview of the his work and life. Take a guided tour to get the most out of the museum. Put Yervand Kochar Museum on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Yerevan holiday planner.

  • Great pieces of art by kochar, very innovative. If you are a art lover you don't want to miss this one.Excellent english guide. It was the highlight of my trip.
  • Went to the Museum, on the advice of a friend and haven't looked back! The Museum consists of four small rooms where Yervand Kochar lived and worked in its time. This museum will satisfy even those who don't particularly like and perceives the vanguard (talking to himself), because you do not snatch the incomprehensible work whose value you are close and you will not understand, and you gradually immersed in this Wednesday, seeing the development of creativity of one person. In the artist's daughter-in-law, has a very pleasant and friendly woman. And upon inspection it becomes even a little hurt that after its return to the motherland in the 30-ies Kochar was accused of formalism and tried to cram into the framework of Soviet propaganda, which in the West have forgotten it. And now his name is not known, although the man has no less a talent than, say, Picasso or Kandinsky. In addition, you can purchase original souvenirs, such as magnet or pendant with a fragment of his work, and not with pomegranate or apricot, as elsewhere.
