Victory Park and Statue of Mother Armenia, Yerevan

4.2
Enjoy a panoramic view of the city and admire a symbol of Armenia at Victory Park and Statue of Mother Armenia, a green area overlooking Yerevan. The monumental, 51 m (167 ft) metal figure of a sword-bearing woman stands on a huge basalt pedestal resembling a three-nave Armenian basilica. The pedestal, which once supported a colossal sculpture of Stalin, houses a military museum commemorating World War II Victory Day. Look for the conserved Soviet Katyusha multiple rocket launcher and other artillery pieces on display in the surrounding park. Take a turn around the green grounds, rent a paddleboat in the manmade lake, or visit the onsite amusement park. • Going to the Victory Park and the Statue of Mother Armenia would take about 10minutes from downtown Yerevan (say: Northern Avenue) and would cost about 1,000 Dram. It was a nice experience as even the...  more »

  • Beatiful place... Show you the Unfainness twoard the Armenian nation
  • There is war museum in the statue but its not good. There isn’t any interest but it’s very important for Armenians.
  • From the soviet memories, this museum is probably better outside with the huge mother Armenia statue than inside. Too many hats, weapons, papers and few photos, almost all in armenian. But it's free, so if you walked till the top of the cascade I'd worth for half an hour.
  • A rather imposing statue that you can see in a lot of Yerevan. To get here go up to the cascades and then you have to follow with temporary staircases due to unfinished building that doesn't look like any work is being done. Go through the park and you are there. Below it is the military museum which is free in.

Where to stay in Yerevan

When it comes to accommodations in Yerevan, you'll find a number and a range befitting its status as the capital and most populous city in the country. Look in the Kentron (center) district, where by far the greatest number and best quality hotels can be found. Hotels in old Soviet blocks, grand former administrative buildings, or newly built high-rises offer standard to luxury rooms, along with a set of smaller hostels. With prices notoriously high for the region (and many visitors using Yerevan as a base from which to see the country), consider renting an apartment if staying for a longer period.
