Victory Park and Statue of Mother Armenia, Yerevan

4.2
Enjoy a panoramic view of the city and admire a symbol of Armenia at Victory Park and Statue of Mother Armenia, a green area overlooking Yerevan. The monumental, 51 m (167 ft) metal figure of a sword-bearing woman stands on a huge basalt pedestal resembling a three-nave Armenian basilica. The pedestal, which once supported a colossal sculpture of Stalin, houses a military museum commemorating World War II Victory Day. Look for the conserved Soviet Katyusha multiple rocket launcher and other artillery pieces on display in the surrounding park. Take a turn around the green grounds, rent a paddleboat in the manmade lake, or visit the onsite amusement park. This is a lovely place to stroll and to relax even though Yerevan in July and August gives new meaning to the word "hot." There are rides for children and adults to enjoy. You can have your picture ta...  more »

The monument is located in the park itself, you need to go a little bit into an abandoned place (very running) passing by thickets of trees, abandoned buildings with broken Windows, a sense of eerie. But after going through this alley leads to greatness, is surrounded by military vehicles. You can go inside, there's a Museum (free), it was interesting to learn that any time a place mother stood Comrade Stalin. As there is a photo in the Museum. The place is not crowded, but the impression it leaves.

Where to stay in Yerevan

When it comes to accommodations in Yerevan, you'll find a number and a range befitting its status as the capital and most populous city in the country. Look in the Kentron (center) district, where by far the greatest number and best quality hotels can be found. Hotels in old Soviet blocks, grand former administrative buildings, or newly built high-rises offer standard to luxury rooms, along with a set of smaller hostels. With prices notoriously high for the region (and many visitors using Yerevan as a base from which to see the country), consider renting an apartment if staying for a longer period.
