St. Grigor Lusavoritch, Yerevan

3.6
#29 of 175 in Things to do in Yerevan
An imposing and austere Armenian Apostolic church, St. Grigor Lusavoritch dominates the city skyline. The massive cathedral complex was completed in 2001, on the 1,700th anniversary of Armenia's adoption of Christianity. It contains the remains of St. Gregory, as well as relics belonging to him--transfered here from Naples. Three churches make up the compound, notable for its arched bell tower and simple, modern architecture. The cathedral welcomes all to enter its unembellished interior, and imposes no dress code. Impressive and grandiose architecture was completed in 2001 for 1700 years since the recognition of Christianity (301 ad) as the State religion. Architecturally conceived as a large gavit, looks austere and peak, dominating the skyline. The long staircase that precedes it gives it solemnity, as well as the clear Tuff stone. To see!

The great Cathedral of the Armenian Church, his consecration took place in 2001 with the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Armenian Church. The complex consists of 3 churches: the Cathedral, the mother church and the chapels of St. Trdat and San Ashkhen Queen.

Where to stay in Yerevan

When it comes to accommodations in Yerevan, you'll find a number and a range befitting its status as the capital and most populous city in the country. Look in the Kentron (center) district, where by far the greatest number and best quality hotels can be found. Hotels in old Soviet blocks, grand former administrative buildings, or newly built high-rises offer standard to luxury rooms, along with a set of smaller hostels. With prices notoriously high for the region (and many visitors using Yerevan as a base from which to see the country), consider renting an apartment if staying for a longer period.
