Parajanov Museum, Yerevan

4.7
#4 of 50 in Museums in Armenia
Browse through a lifetime of artwork at Parajanov Museum, documenting the life and work of one of the most renowned directors of 20th-century Soviet cinema. With over 600 items--250 of which are by Parajanov--the two-story museum features installations, assemblages, collages, drawings, and film sketches, including some pioneering 3D work and librettos produced during his prison term. Opened posthumously in 1991, the museum perches on the cliff of Hrazdan Gorge overlooking the city. Enjoy the panoramic view of Yerevan and ponder a bygone era of the Cold War in art. • Visited the museum with my foreign friends who were amazed by the diversity of artworks by Parajanov. In order to fully experience the visit I advice to pay for the guide (only 1500 AMD), not only doe...  more »
  • Got into this museum on the birthday of Sergei Parajanov-9 January, thanks to our friend guide Nikolay Aleksandrovichu (incidentally very recommend it!) a museum with a very interesting and unusual exposures. I mean, that was a man of extraordinary Paradjanov: something here and from Salvador Dali and from Fellini and something unusual. What's the charge, I can't say, because, as I wrote, we have got there only thanks to our tour guide and free) Museum was open only to friends and acquaintances Paradzhanov, we were greeted by the Director of the Museum and invited to the table, where we were treated to a local wine ) Generally have combined business with pleasure!

  • Great museum of well known artist and talented movie producer: Sergey Paradjanov. Was not accepted during Soviet time. I was very impressed by his surreal pictures.
  • Beautiful museum in the design of a regular house. The museum accurately depicts the life of the Paradjanov.
  • Pretttfun and zany museum but I wouldn't go out of my way if pressed for time.
  • Wonderful and surprising artist and museum. I did not know much before hand and while the museum is not big, 1hour should do it, there are loads of items. Great museum.
  • If you are into flee markets and grandma's junkdrawers, this is worth the detour.

Where to stay in Yerevan

When it comes to accommodations in Yerevan, you'll find a number and a range befitting its status as the capital and most populous city in the country. Look in the Kentron (center) district, where by far the greatest number and best quality hotels can be found. Hotels in old Soviet blocks, grand former administrative buildings, or newly built high-rises offer standard to luxury rooms, along with a set of smaller hostels. With prices notoriously high for the region (and many visitors using Yerevan as a base from which to see the country), consider renting an apartment if staying for a longer period.
