#13 of 28 in Museums in Yerevan
Museum of Russian Art houses a collection of 19th- and 20th-century artworks that include colorful landscape paintings and costumes and scenic designs for ballet, opera, theater, and circus. The museum was founded in 1984 on the initiative of renowned Moscow physician Aram Abrahamian, who donated 200 works by over 120 Russian artists to the city--thus earning a memorial hall in the building. Take a guided tour to learn more about the works and the wider social context they emerged from--namely industrial revolution and social changes that preceded the October Revolution. Nice variety of art styles. I was not familiar with Russian artists but thoroughly enjoyed the paintings exhibited. So often only one or perhaps two paintings are represented but this exhibit provided...  more »

Got accidentally after seeing a poster advertising a temporary Exposition history mini-perfumery. Usherette us persuaded to visit the gallery. Tickets are different: had to buy at both events. Cloths are located on two floors. Well, the paintings were strange, all any gloomy. We did not like. Sorry for the time spent. We, of course, familiar with the works of these famous artists were also in the Hermitage and in other museums. Here the same impression as if collected the most simple and primitive early paintings of these painters. Perhaps we are not judges. Temporary exhibition "history mini-perfumery" was interesting, but very little, cost does not match.

Fantastic Korovin, unexpected Grabar, wonderful Serebriakova, mysterious Goncharova, Kustodiev, Sapphire Vrubel and unfamiliar artists first so good green-violet Osmerkin, southern Krymov. Work one another to great taste and love, well displayed and lit.

Where to stay in Yerevan

When it comes to accommodations in Yerevan, you'll find a number and a range befitting its status as the capital and most populous city in the country. Look in the Kentron (center) district, where by far the greatest number and best quality hotels can be found. Hotels in old Soviet blocks, grand former administrative buildings, or newly built high-rises offer standard to luxury rooms, along with a set of smaller hostels. With prices notoriously high for the region (and many visitors using Yerevan as a base from which to see the country), consider renting an apartment if staying for a longer period.
