  • Visited an exhibition of paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky, timed to coincide with the 200 anniversary of the birth of the artist. Price adult ticket 1500 drams. The exposition is located in several halls, really liked the interactive maps illustrating the stages of life and journey of the artist.

  • I visited this museum multiple time in my childhood. My last visit was with my friends from US. The museum is well organized and welcome. Every last Wednesday of each moth the entrance is for free. Ju...  more »
  • The entrance ticket costs 2000 AMD, guide-5000 AMD, we are for the total paid 9000 AMD (slightly more than one thousand rubles). The Guide caught knowing the excursion was more than 1.5 hours, very exciting. Photo did, as it was once. By the way, Tip: after the cashier has a wardrobe, he for doors and so few about it knows, but it is better to leave outer clothing and examine the exposure light. Covers the period from the Paleolithic to the post-Soviet times. Recommend to visit with a guide.

  • The staff here is incredibly rude and think they work in a Soviet gulag. They constantly order you from one room to the other. At the end I was going to retrieve my jacket from the cloakroom at the bottom floor. The lady a floor above very rudely shouted and wanted me to climb up the stairs to come to her. Presumably she thought I was going to a section that needed a different ticket. Trying to explain I was getting my jacket from the cloakroom didnt help because she barely knows English. So I just ignored her shouts. Have fun at the gulag.
  • I went twice to this museum as I am interested in knowing how the Armenian nation interprets its history. The description is not particularly detailed but still satisfying. However, some parts of the display are only in Armenian and Russian, particularly the Soviet period. The interpretation is a bit biased as well, even though I like this nation very much.
  • A MUST-SEE in Yerevan! As an Italian,I am used to beauty but still remained speechless before the masterpieces showcased in this museum, what Armenians were able to create throughout the centuries is just incredible. Please make sure you visit it!!
  • Plenty of interesting historical items with info in English. Also the ticket price is so low that it feels like you hit the jackpot once you enter and see everything that is hiding inside. Definitely a must when in Yerevan
  • You can't miss the location. It's the massively impressive building beside the fountain in republic square. It's history museum and the art gallery. I chose to just visit the history museum which is 2000. Like most museums it's a bit hit and miss. I visited Ani a few weeks ago in Eastern Turkey and they had a whole exhibit in this which I really enjoyed. Some of the lighting is not great, parts are so dark you can barely see it. That could be improved. Overall it's worth popping in and checking out.

Where to stay in Yerevan

When it comes to accommodations in Yerevan, you'll find a number and a range befitting its status as the capital and most populous city in the country. Look in the Kentron (center) district, where by far the greatest number and best quality hotels can be found. Hotels in old Soviet blocks, grand former administrative buildings, or newly built high-rises offer standard to luxury rooms, along with a set of smaller hostels. With prices notoriously high for the region (and many visitors using Yerevan as a base from which to see the country), consider renting an apartment if staying for a longer period.
