Erebuni Town-Fortress, Yerevan

4.2
Visit the ancient ruins of Erebuni Town-Fortress, the remains of a fortified city that dates back to 782 BCE. Founded by King Argishti I of the Urartu kingdom, the hilltop settlement most likely represents the origins of the current national capital. Take a guided tour of the fortress ruins to learn more about its history and influence on the region, or visit the adjacent museum to admire archaeological findings from the area, including pottery, weapons, jewelry, and ancient coins. Erebuni Town-Fortress is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Yerevan Edition.

  • Received great pleasure from visiting the fortress of erebuni. The stones on the Hill told the story of the Armenian people, the ancient State of Urartu. From the ruins of a magnificent view of the city, mountain and Ararat. Around the remnants of the fortress and on the rise thereto provided benches for rest.

  • If you want to know something about the city older than Rome-go here. A small museum, which is understandable, because the most valuable exhibits (I believe) are in the Museum at Republic square, but the exposition of a very rich and interesting. Hardly in Turkey have a private museum that tells about the ancient State of Urartu. Information stands and signature exhibits in three languages (Armenian, Russian, English) allow even without Guide Learn the history of the formation and development of ancient Yerevan. And don't be lazy to climb on foot up to the ruins of the fortress. Despite the fact that this is a really impressive ruins, and the sheer size of the fortress (especially since this is one of the most ancient fortresses in the history of mankind), and species around. The biggest upset when visiting this monument, as well as many other monuments in Armenia, is disfigured by modern inscriptions of ancient stones. Not from the big mind all sorts of washi painted walls that were built hundreds and thousands of years ago, but all offensively. And in erebuni-most "painted".
