Erebuni Town-Fortress, Yerevan

4.2
Visit the ancient ruins of Erebuni Town-Fortress, the remains of a fortified city that dates back to 782 BCE. Founded by King Argishti I of the Urartu kingdom, the hilltop settlement most likely represents the origins of the current national capital. Take a guided tour of the fortress ruins to learn more about its history and influence on the region, or visit the adjacent museum to admire archaeological findings from the area, including pottery, weapons, jewelry, and ancient coins. Erebuni Town-Fortress is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Yerevan Edition.

  • Beautiful ruins. Alas, supported in not very good condition. The place is beautiful. Especially recommend to lovers of antiquity. Nearby small museum

  • Attraction of the "ancient city-fortress Erebouni" consists of two parts: the Museum and the excavation at the location of the fortress. Museum is interesting and quite informacionen. Excavations in the formation of the exposition, visit difficult (no tracks, no signs). But gorgeous view and surroundings, especially in good weather.

  • The city itself is closed, but be sure to visit the Museum. Under jokes-jest about Armenians you will learn a lot of interesting about the history of the city, and most importantly, remember.

  • Very nice view over the city. We payed the entry fee but on the top we saw that there is a unguarded street where the locals come here for free even with cars. The street starts a few hundred meters right from the museum.
  • ancient Urartunian fortres. it is not mentioned about armenians. Irevan historical city of Azerbaijan
  • old fortress, nice place for walk when you are in Armenia.Fantastic view
  • Ok
  • Having been founded in 722 B.C., Erebuni fortress is still impressive. It is one of the most important Urartian sites. It is a great place for the lovers of ancient castles. There are various cuneiform inscriptions. You can walk at Apadana, Khaldi tower and some other cute places.

Where to stay in Yerevan

When it comes to accommodations in Yerevan, you'll find a number and a range befitting its status as the capital and most populous city in the country. Look in the Kentron (center) district, where by far the greatest number and best quality hotels can be found. Hotels in old Soviet blocks, grand former administrative buildings, or newly built high-rises offer standard to luxury rooms, along with a set of smaller hostels. With prices notoriously high for the region (and many visitors using Yerevan as a base from which to see the country), consider renting an apartment if staying for a longer period.
