Blue Mosque (Persian Mosque), Yerevan

4.0
Step into the peaceful courtyard of Blue Mosque (Persian Mosque), and admire the building's ornate, Persian-style facade. Completed in the 18th century, the mosque was commissioned by Nadir Shah, a powerful Persian ruler. Its simple chambers and prayer hall contrast the exterior's intricate tile-work, vibrantly painted dome, and 24 m (79 ft) minaret. Wander among the roses of the tranquil mosque garden, and visit the small museum that details the building's history. • This is the only mosque in Yerevan. It is in Perian/Iranian style and although it's rather small (compared to the ones in Islamic countries), but it's still worth visiting. It is in a little bit out o...  more »
  • This Mosque is famously called "Blue Mosque". It is situated in the centre of the city on main Mashtots Avenue. There is no entrance fee and once inside the courtyard, the mosque is very large with tw...  more »
  • Sure, there's more spectacular mosques, but a visit of this mosque is interesting in this so Christian Armenia.

  • The place is nice. Beautiful design but too abandoned it couod be much better.
  • Great opportunity to visit mosque for not muslims. Unfortunately was open only yard, and we didn't meet any person inside. Worse to visit it any way.
  • Although the mosque is on the Mashtot Avenue, the main street of Yerevan, it's not too obvious from outside. The main prayer room is inside the complex. But we can see the beautiful facade of the gate. Unfortunately, we came not during the opening hours, so we cannot enter the main praying room. But we still could strolling the courtyard and see photos in the museum.
  • Unappealing deserted mosque. One of the most plain religious buildings I have ever seen. Avoid it unless you are a Muslim.
  • To all the complaining Azeris here, arguing about who's meat this mosque is, please stop. This is a symbol of culture in Armenia, and the ethnic groups and populations of Armenia. Learn to live in piece with these pieces of architecture, like our Armenian churches on valleys in your land. Yes, it is a symbol of islaic art, seen all over the middle east, and islamic countries, including Iran and Azerbaijan. No need to hog over what is what. Anyways, considering Armenia is a Christian country. an interesting monument to see if near the mosque. However, much more beautiful mosques seen in other places. Not worth it if youre 10 miles away, but, if youre close, how about giving it a try?

Where to stay in Yerevan

When it comes to accommodations in Yerevan, you'll find a number and a range befitting its status as the capital and most populous city in the country. Look in the Kentron (center) district, where by far the greatest number and best quality hotels can be found. Hotels in old Soviet blocks, grand former administrative buildings, or newly built high-rises offer standard to luxury rooms, along with a set of smaller hostels. With prices notoriously high for the region (and many visitors using Yerevan as a base from which to see the country), consider renting an apartment if staying for a longer period.
