Kecharis Monastery, Tsakhkadzor
(4.7/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
Pay a visit to Kecharis Monastery, a church complex built between the 11th and 13th century and nestled in the picturesque Armenian highlands. Founded by an Armenian prince of the Pahlavuni dynasty--buried in a small chapel on the premises--the medieval compound includes three churches and a series of chapels, well-restored after a damaging earthquake in 1927. Explore the modest, austere monastic complex dotted with numerous old tombstones, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and admire the ornate memorial stone slabs, or "khachkars." Kecharis Monastery is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Tsakhkadzor Edition.

  • One of the most famous Kecharis monastery in Armenia, located in the resort Tsakhkadzor. It was built in the 11th-13th centuries. There are 4 churches, two chapels, gavit and ancient cemetery with hakarami (stone crosses) in XII-XIII centuries. The monastery is a popular tourist destination, there is also a small store of souvenirs. Being in Tsaghkadzor think here to go for sure. Emotions will be on the level.

  • Each monastery (Church) in Armenia has its own (sometimes tragic) history. And this probably is not an exception, but I don't know her. We this monastery is visited after a dozen similar but located in a much more scenic spots. To make it clear, when traveling to Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt, etc and places in East and North Africa, each following a visit to the ancient ruins of a legendary city impresses all with less and less. While visiting the Colosseum in Rome later many were not at all. Same here-if this is your "first" monastery on the territory of Armenia-required site-you will not regret. Beautifully majestic, soulfully! BUT if you've already visited for example-Noravank, Tatev, Horp-Virap or Olympia. Believe me you no longer impress ...
