Old Khndzoresk, Syunik Province

(4.9/5 based on 45+ reviews on the web)
Nature comes to life at Old Khndzoresk, a village known for its suspension foot bridge and ancient dwellings. Walk the bridge, made of steel mesh, and explore a ravine with picturesque rock formations and cave settlements over 1,000 years old. As there are no flat areas suitable for construction of houses, people used man-made caves as dwellings, some of which reach 20-30 m (66-98 ft) from the ground. A 17th century church and a hermitage with a tomb of an 18th century national hero can be found in the area. Old Khndzoresk is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Goris Edition.

  • People lived here for centuries. In the early 20th century, the Soviet authorities ordered people out, so the new village was built, leaving the old settlement caves as a perfect example of the past. ...  more »
  • Visited this amazing place during our trip to Armenia this year. Place unique in its natural beauty and its history-it's hard to imagine that even relatively recently in this cave city lived a few thousand people there were hospitals, schools, shops and so on. Very interesting about this place told us man who was born in this city and now runs guided tours in these areas (you can find it in the cave before the rear bridge). If you go by car-Please note that the last 2-3 kilometer road (collapse right on the first coat it is necessary before Hndzoreskom and focus on parking coordinates 39° 29' 46° N 59.1 25 foot 25.53 "E) is very bad with normal slope down-the" puzoterke "drive almost unreal, especially if on the eve of rain passed. We had to leave the car at the top and go on foot to the suspension bridge, however long you probably won't have to go-definitely somebody will pick up you at four, those who go there (which is what happened with us almost immediately, thank you very much for that very nice Armenian family). Note that down to the bridge goes down enough long ladder-up can be difficult to climb for those who have health problems. By the time count on 1.5 hours -2-take a walk there is very nice and interesting!

  • If you have arrived to Tatev, find strength and a little time, that would reach the old Khndzoresk village! If you are travelling independently, having to help Navigator: at one point the road need to collapse onto and ride down the field for another 3 km:) but it's worth it, though!) beautiful beautiful nature, interesting insight into the lives of people in ordinary caves, which flowed in this vein until the middle of the last century, a bit of sports workouts (descending and ascending more than 800 stairs on both sides) and extreme impressions (navigating the tractor's bridge at high altitude). all this you can find in this peaceful and picturesque setting!
