Monastery Sevanavank, Sevan

(4.7/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy a visit to the picturesque site of Monastery Sevanavank, an ancient religious complex that overlooks Lake Sevan. Situated on a peninsula that was once an island before the water level dropped, the monastery stands atop a hill, with scenic views of the lake and the often snow-capped slopes in the backdrop. You'll need to climb a number of stairs to reach the site, but you'll be rewarded with inspiring panoramic views. Explore the two historic churches, most likely dating from the 9th century and exhibiting a typical, simple Armenian style of architecture. • The Sevanavank Monastery is an incredible structure on top of the hill. Follow the trail and walk straight up farther - you'll see the entire lake around you. It was extremely cold in December but i l...  more »
  • Be in Armenia and not visit the Sevan cannot, a fortiori, the road is good and don't need a lot of time on the road. The path runs along the mountains and suddenly have a beautiful view of the Lake, right in the head appear thoughts about food, Shiga, trout and cancer shakes. But enough about the food. The monastic complex was on the island, which became a peninsula, but now say the water level rises and looking wonderful place in ten years will turn into an island again, hiding ancient tombs and historical places, which opened in the fall of water level to 17 meters! Water is amazingly clean and it gives a special kind of Lake on frozen even with 12 degrees of frost day) rises majestically Above the ancient Sevanavank was founded in the year 874. Victory over the Arabs in difficult period in Armenia gave special status to the monastery, which had been depopulated in 1930, but now the monks ' presence gives vitality to old buildings. Located quite high, many with first attempt did not prevail against hundreds of stair steps upstairs pretty windy and cool ((especially when frost Street at the foot of the bottom of the familiar spontaneous administrators parking, souvenir peddlers and many restaurateurs, ugoshhajushhie trout and crayfish. Prices are not cheap, but acknowledge their space, too, can't)

  • Great view, great scenery, great shots. Here really believe that more than 300 sunny days per year. If you want interesting pictures of the monastery on the sky background-then it's better to come in the evening, if you want to photograph lighted church amid the Lake-then it should be arriving in the evening, otherwise the Sun will be anonymous

  • The view of Sevan Lake is breathtaking! When you visit Armenia, you MUST include this in your itinerary. Sevanavank (the monasteries in Sevanavank) is in higher location so you will have to climb up (don't worry they have stairs, a long one). Don't forget to bring your jacket, it's cold.
  • It's worth it to visit. Especially for the monastery and the view of Sevan. You can see how huge is Sevan and it's endless waters. Panoramic view of Sevan.
  • Perched onto a small hill, Sevanavan won the best setting with a panoramic view over Lake Sevan, which may be the most atmospheric and solemn cathedral in Armenia. However, it was so disappointed to walk along the lakeside beach as the sand was so coarse and most parts has been privatised and partitioned.
  • A great place! Situated on of the peninsulas, it has a great scenery over the lake. The church matches with the lake... It is dark, the way it was described in Muratsan's tale.
  • It's worthy to visit, nice view and good food there.
