Noratus Cemetery, Noratus

Marvel at the age and design of the ancient tombstones at Noratus Cemetery, a historic early Middle Ages cemetery with the largest cluster of khachkars in the country. With over 800 steles with elaborately carved crosses, scenes of farm life, weddings, figures with professional insignia dating from the 9th to the 17th centuries, the cemetery is a majestic site set against a backdrop of snow-clad mountains in the distance. Today dotted with orange lichens, the tombstones, steles, and stones are all different one from another, testifying to the originality of their creators.
