Noratus Cemetery, Noratus
(4.9/5 based on 55 reviews on the web)
Marvel at the age and design of the ancient tombstones at Noratus Cemetery, a historic early Middle Ages cemetery with the largest cluster of khachkars in the country. With over 800 steles with elaborately carved crosses, scenes of farm life, weddings, figures with professional insignia dating from the 9th to the 17th centuries, the cemetery is a majestic site set against a backdrop of snow-clad mountains in the distance. Today dotted with orange lichens, the tombstones, steles, and stones are all different one from another, testifying to the originality of their creators. • This cemetery is one of the tourist spots in Armenia. There are so many stories behind the tomb. The only weird and creepy is the tomb with the whole body picture of the person?... Whew!

  • A place full of khachkars, literally meaning "cross stones". It is the biggest khachkar-occupied territory in Armenia! They are very beautiful! Every one of them is unique. All of them are delicate, covered with cute ornaments. You can walk to Daputs monastery which is close to it. You must visit this place if you are travelling in Armenia!
  • A striking place, where residents share with interest the interpretation of images on stone gravestones. Very fine work!
